I'm no big city mechanic, but I don't think you're supposed to use Astroglide in your transmission.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well at least you solved the problem Pete, good going.
I found a 12" diameter puddle under my transmission. Last weekend I changed out the back-up light switch. When I broke the tightness on the bad switch I heard a sound like pressure being released followed by a little gurgle noise. Popped the switch and motored on. Fast forward to yesterday...I pull out of the garage and I notice a puddle. It was not from under the motor but closer to the transmission. The fluid is clear, kinda thick and oily. Is there a correlation with the back up switch and the fluid? I have not noticed any additional fluid leaking. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions? Its not motor oil but is a little smelly.
I wouldnt think so....where is the switch?
the cluch lines are on top of the trans... I know they can be damaged (so brake fluid) - but your clutch is still working... so most likely AC.....
time to loose some weight with AC delete
Well, I just did this switch replacement myself and the sucking noise / gurgling happened to me as well. No fluid leaks for me though so I think the sound and fluid are unrelated.
Im sure once you look under there youll find the culprit.... Im thinking in the area where you last touched is the culprit.
Changed my reverse switch as well..... yup sucking noise with a gurgle and no leak.
I dont know for sure.. I know ac lines are up there. But they shouldnt be that fragile.. unless you were crankin on the switch and didnt realize the pressure you were putting on the lines... But even then they would bend not generally break.
Did you check the AC op yet?
The switch looks like this. I'm pretty sure it needs to be a little tighter. I snugged it up when installing but didn't want to crank on it. I think a little more zaftig past tight should do it. Glad to hear that others had the same gurgling sound.
Very good question! The switch did not come with a washer. I did not think it needed one because the old switch did not have one either....or so I think. So the question is...should I have a washer?
To the others that have done the replacement, did you guys have a washer?
Well here is a update for you guys. And in the immortal words of Shark Attack........**** me!
I took the switch out last nite. The source of the leak was the new switch that I got off ebay. I checked the threads and put it back in. The threads look like they were cut. I took it to tight and see below what happened. The heiny's made the pain go away. The damn switch snapped in half and I spent an hour getting the threaded portion out of the tranny. I nearly filled my shorts when it went. Have a OEM part coming in tomorrow (Sat). Shipping is more than the part. Hindsight it looks like the threads are not the exact same and that is what called the leak under pressure. Lessen learned...OEM!
yup.... OEM, 15 bucks, hell I bought 2 since the 996 parts bin seems to be going up in price lately.... but it did cost me closer to 500 buck since the RS mounts just kept staring at me.
ohwwwwwww... I can only imagine what went through your mind when it snapped.... Thats one that when it happens you just kinda put all the tools down.. lay there under the car for a min or two saying "that didnt just happen"... lol
I literally had a pucker moment........and I was not even driving! After a few deep breaths I pressed my finger tips on top of the part still inside the tranny and s l o w l y backed it out. When I got it out I said something like "Sweet Geebus.....let my people go". New switch arrived Sat, installed it and all is good.
