I just lowered mine the other day using H&R springs that were made to reproduce my OEM spring rate yet lower the car without the need for GT3 control arms and other hardware.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm considering lowering the 996 and my only experience with lowering is on a Mustang. What should I consider as appropriate parts to lower the vehicle and maintain proper suspension geometry?
If you do a search you will find different options from springs only, to OE parts, to extreme coilover options. Whats your goal? (ie. looks, ride, comfort, etc)
Search returns a multitude of ideas and solutions. I am looking to improve looks without too much of a ride sacrifice. On the Mustang, springs, and caster camber plates to adjust alignment was the way to go.
Alignment would be my concern with just springs however, it isnt a deal breaker. Just means new tires sooner...
If you've got a US spec car - which is 98% of us - there is still a lot of room to lower the car without making major changes. If your lowering the car to what is called 'ROW' (Rest Of the World) settings - which is everyone else but Can/US you can lower the car by about 1.2 to no more then 1.5 inches without having to change parts or major tire wear. I just lowered mine the other day using H&R springs that were made to reproduce my OEM spring rate yet lower the car without the need for GT3 control arms and other hardware.
I don't have the alignment sheet handy but the camber put in is only slightly aggressive and the ride was about what I expected although I do have too much air pressure all around so I'm going to reduce air pressure so that should make the spring rate less firm. If your car is a few years old you may have to invest in some new rubber bump stops as my indy replaced mine as they looked pretty ratty. Now I have a pair of OEM springs and don't know what to do with them. They roll around too much to be useful as paper weights!
For factory-correct solutions, search this forum for "X74" and "RoW M030" and pick one.
For aftermarket, there are plenty of people here with experience who can help you pick between the various options.
I'm happy with the RoW M030. Huge improvement in handling and a mild drop. A bit harsh on bad roads in the only drawback. Plus it's relatively inexpensive.
If you want to improve looks and do the Euro height do RoW M030. That is what I did on mine. Love it. More agressive look will be X74. These are both OE products.
