Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There is some engine rattle coming from the rear corner in my 996.

POST 2Original post

What is he referring to as "the puck"? Can you post an audio clip of this sound?

POST 3Original post

What are the fault codes? Post an audio clip if you can but keep running the engine to a minimum. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 4Original post

Sounds like a bad AOS to me. They are both in the same general area, just the AOS is higher up. Some failures on the AOS will make a whining noise. Rick 99 996C4 87 944S

POST 5Original post

Does the whine go away after the car is warm? That high pitch whine sounds like the auxiliary air pump. The aux. air pump shuts off once the engine has reached a certain temp. When it's on, it produces a very similar "whine" noise as in our video. See thread below (especially post #1, 2 and 19). Perhaps the pump is on its way out. Good luck. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=93573

POST 6Original post

This doesn't sound like a vane cell adjuster issue to me. It could be the AOS, troubleshooting that is simple, though. The CEL code and the noise may not be related-
