so let me get this right, you use an example where someone in busy traffic over corrects himself, due to you tailgating, and you use him as an example of your "flagging" exercise???

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Performance Driving School at Houston Police Academy.
I have made a few laps on that track in Patrol Cars. It is a lot of fun chasing and pushing the vehicles around the fast track and the precision track. At least when you whack a cone in a patrol car you don't have to worry about your paint or damage.
I can use the track when ever I want and can even get the Drivers training unit to help me drive the patrol cars. I took the P-Car around the track just to play, only one lap. Wish I could get let others use the track but there is that thing called liability and I don't want to lose my job over something like that.
Do you think Performance Driving School would be a good class for me to take? I know that I will learn something there.
Maybe I will go there and check it out, meet people, and have some fun watching this month. Then sign up for the next one.
I will defiantly go and try the DE at Texas World Speedway this year.
Thanks
Copper
I have takes about 25+ "drivers skills days" and only a few DE's (this year I plan to hit every DS and 4 DE's)
I can say this...I learn something everytime and even if its suble or polishing...its still learning - DS days cost $65 and DE's are $200 ish... I get a lot more bang for my small budget outta the DS's there is no substitute for an instructor helping AND ridning with other instructors to help with humble me out when my head thinks it knows too much
ANY drivers training is worth the time - at any level, any skill level, any age
+1 Driving schools (DE) have made me a better driver on the streets....at least in my head. I find myself anticipating other drivers, looking far ahead of where the car is pointed and constantly looking in my mirrors. The schools have taught me things can happen faster than what you think.....things street driving can't. And when you improve on the track and go faster and faster it will be another learning curve. The learning never stops and the fun factor rises each and every time. Like Ed, I am hoping for 4 DE's this year. The friends and experiance you gain are priceless.
Yea, Pete is so right on...the street benefit is 10X! - I find I am fully engaged just driving to work...I tend to apex every turn and that makes a more comfortable ride for passengers even though they have no idea you are doing it (can be done in a single lane, naturally) My level of concentration has risen and when things go wrong I have a tool set to work from.
example: we do a station called "accident avoidance" and I have done it many many times... one Monday after a track day, coming home from work, the car in front of me (65mph) tried to change lanes. As he changed he noticed a car already there (I was following him pretty close in traffic....) he swears back radically, causing his car to loose tracton. - in accident avoidance we have to wait for the flagger.... this car suddenly became my flagger.... I waited as he began to spin to the left.... wait, no flag yet... and THEN his car violently spun RIGHT!... well since I waited the correction was very subtle and I just drove around him as he litterally spun a 720 on the freeway. I watched in the mirror and thought, that was easy!!! - BUT, had I not waited and turned before it was time, I would have chosen the wrong way and the whole thing could have turned out much differently had I been collected in the spin....
I attribute the "save" to the skills days and have heard many other stories that drivers feel the skills learned at the track saved thier bacon on the highway
sorry so long.
DE = Drivers Ed.

Check your local PCA chapter. If you aren't a member.....join up. Check out clubregistration.net or check the PCA site. Its better than sex....well almost.
The advice you have been given in here by Ed, Pete and David is dead on, IMHO. The track experience, under the guidance of PCA instructors, will serve you very well, both on the track and on the street. But, let me warn you right now, you think "we are evil", wait until you go to the track......you won't be able to contain the wishlist...the slippery slope gets even slipperier....while it's all good, remember, you were warned....enjoy!
Pics or it never happened!
j/k......
I'm glad you signed up for an event. Most guys buy their cars but never really know what the car.....oh wait...what they can do because the car can do it with its eyes closed.
Pics are personal. No offense but NYDB.
I took some performance driving courses in my younger days, but that was a while ago. The awd Pcar is definitely a new experience for me and handles totally different than the other cars I have had.
Besides, after 25 years it's probably time for a refresher course. I'm old enough to know better than to street race, but young enough to still want to push the limits of my car.
Read the fine print, in my area all cars have to have an independant track inspection for DEs make sure to get that done if required or the day will. End before it begins. Track inspecdtions are pretty cursory for DEs but required non the less
As for the warning - don't worry, you don't have to inhale
The LSR PDS program is a great way to start to learn how to drive your car. It includes among other things, a wet skidpad, which is a hoot. You guys will love it, and I predict we'll see you at one of our DE events at TWS. I instruct at all the PCA DE's at TWS. Look me up when you get there.
so let me get this right, you use an example where someone in busy traffic over corrects himself, due to you tailgating, and you use him as an example of your "flagging" exercise??? Are you kidding me?
Maybe you need a refresher on aggressive driving, if you weren't tailgating this guy he would've had a chance to see you out of his blind spot. Just because you are anticipating someone's suprised reaction to you tailgating, doesn't mean that you have a higher sense of driving skill, just that you are a dick.
I'm not surprised you didn't stop to see if the guy made it out of his 720, considering that you could've been charged for the fault of the accident, by anyone witnessing your road rage. Goof.
Usually there is a form on the local PCA site for a DE inspection. A Pcar dealer or a good independent Euro car mechanic can do it. Sometimes the local Pcar dealer will do it for free.
The tech inspection form actually lists shops that do inspections for our DE's. Most places that you regularly do business with will do the inspection for free.

For the PDS event, cars are inspected on-location on the day of the event.
Hey Copper, welcome aboard. I just retired after 25 years. 20+ in a patrol car & 13 with a K-9. Congratulations on the P-car. I would take advantage of the department's track in the patrol car....if they will let you spend extra time there, it's hard to beat getting paid to drive a dept. car on the track (their gas, tires, brakes, etc.) I never took advantage of it, but my assocciation also sponsored local racers.
Retired after 25 years. Good for you! I am looking at doing 30 only 11 more to go.
I need to take advantage of it. Since I work at the academy I can get on the track a lot. The higher up wants us to cross train. I guess that would be a good excuse to get on the track
If DE is anything like Ken Block's driving sign me up. LOL I need to sign up and do one. The more I read about revving (heal/Toe) under steering and such about a rear mounted engine, I need to go and take the class.
Thanks for all the input.
You missed a golden opportunity. The Driver's Edge was at MSR-H all weekend. Weather was perfect! FYI, The Driver's Edge has events every month - sometimes two a month. They are really focusing drivers on core competencies to make you better in the long run. Excellent classroom presentations and great on track instruction. I've been instructing with them for 3 or 4 years now - and it's a great crew.
Heh, you missed TWO golden opportunities. I also gave the class on heel-toe 101! It was a presentation on why to do it, how to do it, and the tools you need to learn and practice it. doh!
But remember - no matter what, attend something! The PCA has some local events as well, just not as many, IIRC.

Right.
www.thedriversedge.net
.
Where PCA is a more of a national club based organization, The Driver's Edge is really a business catering to high performance driving. You'll see more than just Porsches out - we have Ferraris, BMWs, Mercedes, Nissan GTRs, Z06s (and ZR1s), Lotuses [Lotii?] as well as Mustangs, Camaros, Miatas etc etc. There are many more marques in attendance at these events.
It's really a blast.

The next PCA DE event is June 11-12 @ TWS. Registration opens at noon on May 11. Our events sell out within days, so if you want to attend, register at clubregistration.net on May 11. PCA members go to the head of the line for registration for the first week, so if you are not a member, it's worth joining. Membership with PCA pays for itself on the first event. TWS is a kick-a$$ track.
if you go enough to events you might even get in one of the magazines... I have been (background) a couple times and my old 996 is in the background photo on the website, h&ll I am practically famous!
Isn't the next one, Maybe a misprint???

7 LSR DE at TWS
7-8 ???
I have a free TWS DE from Porsche of North Houston. How would I sign up with the paper I was given?
Thanks
The LSRPCA Performace school is great. You will put some wear on your brakes and tires. Don't worry about the inspection. It is very informal. No leaks, tires in good shape, and loose stuff out of the car. This means floor mats too.
Urban Living events can be fun too. Just google search urban speed to see some of the cars that show up. PM me and we can talk more.
The next one is May, but I'm pretty sure the beginner run group is full already. You can always try. I'll ping the registrar to find out how to sign up with a DE certificate.
Copper, the good news is that's it's really easy to sign up with a certificate. The bad news is, as Mike mentions, the beginner group for our May 7-8 event is already quite full. Our next event is June 11-12. Registration opens on May 11 at noon. Sign up as quickly as you can and select "Certificate" as your Entry Type.
Just want to make sure I have this right.
1. sign up here

Thanks
^That's right. Simple stuff.
If LSR is full, The Driver's Edge is at MSR-C on May 14-15 and at TWS on May 21-22. Both are also getting full. After that, it's HERE (Houston - MSR) June 25-26.

No, actually you want to want to search for Club = Lone Star Region PCA
Texas World Speedway runs some of their own events. The one you picked up is one of their open track day for solo drivers only. You would need to be checked off as a solo driver by either TWS, TDE, or LSRPCA to be able to drive on that particular day.
I think the thing you have to understand is that "pretty close" is not tailgating... I had plenty of room...it was "normal Seattle traffic" at speed... nothing unusual, rude, unsafe, jackass, jerk, dick or goof.... just "pretty close" for the speed...
3-6 inches at least
(how that became the point of my story)
