Use of the 3M system removed the UV overlay film, so I installed new protective overlays ordered from Performance Products.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Factory Bi-Xenon headlight film questions? So, my car has one light (passengers) that is starting to just slightly yellow. I am debating getting them both polished read some decent reviews on a Dr. headlamp down here. Anyone have any experience?
Also, there appears to be a factory film on my light but only extends half way on the lamps anyone know if once polished this has to be replaced? I seem to remember it is a cut-off for right hand drive market. Anyone know OEM part numbers? Is it really even necessary?
You might have someone polish it if they guarantee results. If it doesnt help it then you dont pay. If it doesnt help it youll have to buy new lights. I use X-Pel film and its worked great . I think you may be seeing a seam that is imprinted on the lens. Doesnt have anything to do with film.
If you polish the lights you will polish off the factory uv and scratch resistant coating. I have not heard of anything to replace it, but think something like these from Griot's would do the job...

however i have not done it..
I have used 3M Headlight Lens Restoration System (about $25 at AutoZone) with very good results. In the case of my '99 CLK 320, the headlights were starting to haze badly. Use of the 3M system removed the UV overlay film, so I installed new protective overlays ordered from Performance Products. Now two years later, the headlights still look new.

I tried using the Blue Magic Headlight Lens Restorer product after hand wet-sanding with 2000 grit paper. Still looks the same as the other lens. I've watched the 3M video, then found another video that had 3 sanding operations with progressively finer paper and 2 scratch remover operations all with a rotary tool - really looked good in the end. Not sure what to do with my lenses - they seem to have little craze or crack marks deep into the plastic. Will try to check them with a magnifying glass and see if the "cracklettes" go all the way in.
