Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I presume that change may have happened in 97 as well...

I've had 4 e36 M3s, I could've sworn the front end/side marker lights changed over in 96.

Either way, it looks like you've really made good use of each of the cars you've owned.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

New one (997), next to old one. May you have a good owner. Wish I kept all 3
2002.... the good ol days, I like looking at the background of the photos to see those old cars back there....
Happy motoring in the 997. (I figured out what you were talking about)
I think I've got.
"Wished I kept all three" makes it seem like he doesn't have any of them anymore.
But, upon further review, it would appear that the OP has indeed kept one (the 997), and yet still wishes he had
kept all three
. - - elementary, my dear Watson, elementary!
Nope, it was 1996, came out in 1996 1/2, with the 3.2l engine, different wheels and newer trim. Same 240 hp but more torque I believe. Great handling and very reliable. Needed a six gear.
Was it ever in a front end accident? The front kidney grills look like a '95 but I don't think they made that color until '96.
Either way, it looks like you've really made good use of each of the cars you've owned. Congrats
The front kidney grill was new in '97, only the '96 had the original grill, but did have the newer side skirts and wheels. Never in an accident. Only rash. forgot the name of the color, maybe basal black?
I've had 4 e36 M3s, I could've sworn the front end/side marker lights changed over in 96. I never looked at coupes so I was limited to the 97-98, pardon my ignorance.
Enjoy the new car, it looks pretty.
You r right. I thought the m3 was like an "all weather interceptor". It got me through the great " el nio" year of '97 when I was commuting for work between LA and san diego back then. It was so stable and plenty of torque down below on revs. It sounded great too. The original pilot mxx3's tires were very grippy and better than the pilots that replaced them a few yrs later, until ps2's came along. I still do have my first car, '87 vw GTI-16v, in bad need of restoration. Again, wish still had car #2 & 3
Yes--the E36 M3 is great in the snow too (with my "Ice Bear" snow tires). I can beat SUVS off of the line at traffic lights with the Ice Bears and LSD engaged (hah!). Having both the E36 M3 and 996 Coupe would be ideal!
Ahem......
But in all honesty I think both BMW and Audi's are exceptional cars and each has their own advantages. I just thought it was funny to add this photo to the mix.... All in humor guys (I know how you Bimmer guys can get your panties in a bunch.)
Obviously non-XI but either way I don't mind not having the extra Pork that the Audi's generally have. Although I'm a sucker for their interiors.
I'm still a BMW and Porsche owner here. Who says you have to give up one for the other.
Wait, the cup holders look like an early car's as well, no? I presume that change may have happened in 97 as well...
I am going to disagree with you guys here. I think the e36 M3 may have been the worst inclement weather car I've ever been around. I used to see one wrecked on track every time it rained. I think the fact that you never see them in the snow up north is telling. I took a trip in a snow storm to Massachusetts a few years ago, I did not see another BMW for several days on the road. I enjoy having an e36 M3 sideways when traction is reduced (or not, come to think of it, what a marvelous, playful car), but there are many cars I'd pick before that car in the wet if the task at hand is to go fast, obviously starting with the 911...
