Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Team 996, (and forgive my somewhat rambling post) Two of my preferred local indie Porsche specialist (near me in Sydney, Australia) use Gulf ULE 5W-40 and there's really no information out there on what the oil's makeup is or any thoughts. There also seems to be nothing much about the oil on BobIsTheOilGuy site either. I'll probably end up posting there. Curious if anyone uses it and might have a UOA to share? Below are the approvals Approvals : VW 502 /505 /505 01 | Mercedes-Benz 229.51 | BMW Longlife-04 | Porsche A40 Specifications : ACEA C3 | API SN | Ford WSS-M2C917-A The query is due to there's a lot of love for Driven 40 (which isn't readily available here in Oz / no return on emails etc). Lake Speed Jr likes Motul X-Cess Gen 2 (also not available here), or Pennzoil Ultra Platnium (also note available here). I can get Redline 5W-40 but it is over $300 for 9L. It isn't easy to source but it is possible. I'm also concious that oil sitting on the shelf can go bad and my thinking is a rare oil like Redline there's no way of knowing when it was manufacturered and therefore how long it has been sitting around. Also $300 vs 160 (for Gulf) is hard to accept without good reason So if I'm somewhat stuck of an oil that has lots of love from our US breathern but unobtanium here in Australia I thought I'd see what Gulf has to offer.

As you already know, the Gulf ULE 5W40 has official A40 Porsche approval as well as API SN. You can research the specifics with a simple Google search or read up at API's website. But with those two certifications, you have a base line and I would imagine the oil is in line with other A40/API SN engine oils, but definitely not on par with Driven DT40 when it comes to the additive package. Since VOA lab tests aren't available for the Gulf oil from what I can tell, if you really want to know the specific chemistry of the oil, then you might want to buy a quart and send a sample to Speedianostix. That will give you want you want to know.

Yea That's what I'm going to do. Was hoping someone else had some info stashed away

POST 4Original post

I don't think we typically see Gulf products here in the US so it might be tough to find info on it. Look forward to seeing what the VOA looks like. I can imagine that different countries might have different environmental requirements which might drive what additives and overall chemistry is used in the oil. For other highly recommended oil that have a great additive package which are available outside of US is Millers Oil. Is that something you can get in the land down under?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Millers Oil UK site doesn't list a distributor downunder. Googling Millers Oil Australia returns a beauty products website. I know I need help but I suspect this face is beyond repair I didn't have a spare litre of Gulf ULE so drove to my indie 1 hour round trip) and bought a litre. VOA on its way to the analysts
