Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I meant for him to check the motorcycle shops for the specific Motul oil he needs as many motorcycle shops carry Motul and Repsol and other "high-performance" type oils.

This way you get all the benefits of both, like extended intervals between changes, friendly to hyd lifters, seal conditioners, not too slippery, less weeping, etc.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recent oil change with Motul 5w40. If I need to top it off (.5 to 1 quart max), would it be ok to add Castrol Syntec 5w40, or is that a bad idea? I'm not aware of any place locally that stocks Motul.
Motorcycle oil is full of sacrificial alloys (metal) that have been weened out of automotive oils since the mid '70s when emmission laws started taking effect. These heavy metallic compounds protect vital motor parts in high reving and competition motors, but will foul your catalytic converters and may cause other issues. You cannot use M/C oils in piston driven aircraft either because the additives will eventially end up on the spark plugs and can foul them over time. Reason for changing M/C plugs anually.
Motul is great oil, and whether it is a syn or parafin base, you can add any parafin (non-syn) oil to it. In fact I use syn in the cars (Porsche, Lexus, Jeep) mixed with 1 qt of non-syn. This way you get all the benefits of both, like extended intervals between changes, friendly to hyd lifters, seal conditioners, not too slippery, less weeping, etc.

I would only put the type oil that's in it back into it, no matter what car it is, but especially one with a $10K motor. I'm sure it'd be fine, but "peace of mind" goes a long way.
I agree. It never ceases to amaze me that P-ar owners (high end cars in general)
think of them as so fragile...They aren't made of porcelain for crying out loud! I can't imagine that a slightly different oil brand will do any damage to internal parts made of strong metal while its function is to lubricate, which it will do. These are cars, not dolls.
