Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Oh and for you owners around the houston area, dealer reported around 2K for clutch job, but found an independent shop (who installed 2 new tires for me after a blow out yesterday, lol) that will do the job total price $1,200 complete (labor, clutch kit, and flywheel resurface).
Leading evidence: 'Install 2 new tires' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). LN engineering makes an upgraded replacement that can only be replaced with the trans out.

Suggestion
AOS-Air Oil Separator- they wear out and it is much easier to change when trans is out

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

New to Forum, wanted to introduce myself. This is my second porsche (first was 99 Boxster) and my first carrera (02 C2 Cab). Love the car, handles great, but quick question are the clutches normally kind of noisy (rattling noise that goes away when you press in the clutch???).
I was looking to buy a Lotus or Z06, (which my wife wanted), but she gave in so here we are
PS: I know there is a guy on here from Hawaii, if your looking, what Island are you on????
I don't have many pictures of her yet, but heres a few. many things on the to do list, but just haven't had the time. Modification suggestions anyone...
Hello, welcome aboard
NICE car, love the color. how many miles?
Good luck with it.
Clutches are normally quiet.
Sounds like you might have a bad throw out bearing or possibly bad dual mass flywheel.
If you need to pull the trans search for "while you're in theres"
some are:
AOS-Air Oil Separator- they wear out and it is much easier to change when trans is out
RMS - Rear Main Seal if it is not leaking may want to leave it alone, it is a debate here
IMS bearing - Intermediate Shaft Bearing- Might be considered a "weakness" in 1998-2008 "M" type engines. LN engineering makes an upgraded replacement that can only be replaced with the trans out.
Nice cab. I second the comments on the clutch. Did you have a PPI done? I would have thought that it would have caught the throw-out bearing/flywheel issue.
hey guys, it has 66K miles on the odo now. I had a PPI done, with no report of any issues, but that really doesn't mean anything. I talked to the guys at RUF in Dallas and they said it shouldn't be the IMS bearing if it goes away when the clutch is pushed in, but I have no earthly idea, lol. They suggested same thing as fbp111, so I guess when I get some down time, I'll have to get the transmission pulled. Otherwise, drives great, lots of power, no leaks or smokes (which is nice compared to the boxster I had, lol).
Thanks for the advice, I was really close to trading it in the other day on another 2011 IS or an Elise, but I really love this car...
Do you guys think I should not drive it until I get the time to get it looked at?
Thanks, and sorry for the million questions, but do you guys think it might be the clutch plates like they talked about in this thread
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...a-neutral.html
I'm not sure if they were replaced as I just got the car a couple of months ago (same noise since I bought it, no better or worse). Thanks for all of the compliments and the information (I'm located in the sticks of southeast texas so information is sometimes hard to obtain, lol.
Welcome, and nice looking cab!
Mine makes the same noise when the clutch pedal is out... goes away as soon as there is some pressure put on to the pedal. Started some time after a (dealer stock) clutch replacement at 40k and a few DE's... My guess that it is the clutch plate vibrating slightly as I am not sure why the throwout bearing would cause a rattle noise, they usually whine while going out...
Works well, takes alot of abuse, so not too worried!
Have fun with it, the weather the past week has been great down here for top down enjoyment!
She looks great, enjoy her. My bet is on the throw out bearing. Pressure plate typically squeaks when giving you trouble. Finger(s) on plate giving out. It really depends on exactly what kind of noise it's making.
Good news I had it checked out yesterday from 3 different sources, lol, including Porsche Dealership. They listened to it, and even drove the car. They said the clutch was great and the noise (which goes away with the slightest pressure on the clutch) was either the release bearing causing a minor rattle, or some minor rattle in the plates. They said it was nothing to worry about and not to worry about it until the next time the clutches need to be replaced, as those parts will be apart of the kit.
So good news, I was greatful the none of the even charged me to drive it and look at the car.

If my clutches go out I think I will go this route.
Nice car, If you had a Boxster you will absolutely love the 996 Cab, a lot more of everything that you get with the little guy.
Re the clutch, the only time the throwout bearing rotates is when the clutch is depressed. This is the only time a bad bearing will make noise. If a PPI was done, ask who did it if the noise is a concern. It's possible the clutch booster spring has been removed, which makes the feel much better and the pedal is a bit loose in the topped out position.
