I tightened the jubilee clips so that they can be undone from the bottom.

I actually replaced the bellows when I did the clutch so I'm not going to have a problem with that part.

Suggestion
If the car is on jacks already for changing pads, it's 5 mins tops.
Replace pads alone surely doesn't take 1.5-2 hours, even

Suggestion
I asked if 1.5-2 hours includes taking the wheels off because changing the pads alone surely doesn't take 1.5-2 hours, even on all 4.

PB Blaster on the caliper bolts before you start the job, if you need to change the rotors.

Suggestion
removing the mufflers is the biggest gain of space there and if you have done that a couple times its like a 10 min/side job....dont forget to run the car without the mufflers to see what you are missing by not running bypass ppipes
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Who's go two thumbs and has a fun project to do this weekend?
THIS GUY
Look what the kids found on the door step today! Sucks that I have to wait till the weekend. Too busy the remainder of the week.
Can you tell I'm bipolar?
Gotta love Sunset. $372 for all of these gifts and prizes!
A little bit of both. I know what I can reach on the gearbox side..... I just don't know what I can't reach....
I was explaining where it is to my son and that I had to remove this and that because my arms don't fit. He said his did. So I'm in like Flynn.
the only trouble I had was "understanding" that the little pipe with the o'ring thing on it doesnt actually "snap" or even feeel like it goes into the stupid holes... very un-nerveing - then the lowere bellows clamp almost beat me... I had a bad fall and no strength on my left hand (which was the only one that could reach it) its at the farthest reach point in a bad twisted angle... I had to swap to a screw clamp
expect.... 6-8 hrs on that aos. 20 min on the brake ducts.... and as for the pads 1.5-2hrs. Looks like a good weekend though. If you can, try to re-use the oem bellows clamps. The worm clamp has a tendency to pinch the rubber bellows.... its not a very thick rubber.
if you are going from the top... here are the holes that you have to feel for...
When I did mine on my boxster the best way to remove the bellow is to just cut it out rather than trying to remove it with the clamp on... Once bello and aos is removed it's easier to take out the clamps.. Use a clamp plier to remove the clamps...
I actually replaced the bellows when I did the clutch so I'm not going to have a problem with that part. I tightened the jubilee clips so that they can be undone from the bottom.
It's the other hose attachements that I'm worried about.
I had my new AOS sitting in my car for about 9 months until I did clutch/IMS maintenance. I didn't even want to attempt it via the top.

like Ferd, I did mine from the top - its not all that bad, just that we are not pro's and so we take each step with caution because we have never done it before... i think if I was to do another one from the top it would take a lot less time...
I have not done one from the bottom.
I can tell you that a 1/4 ratchet set with really really long extensions is a plus... for the bolts I just removed the rear wheel and got them without even reaching in there...lowering the motor gains you a ton of space too and is simple... just 2 nuts
20 mins on the brake ducts?? They are held by clips. If the car is on jacks already for changing pads, it's 5 mins tops.
Pads 1.5-2 hrs? Maybe that includes jacking the car up, sipping some tea in the middle?
Ed, make sure you have time to do a weekend project like that. A lot of people don't realize how much time it takes to do a weekend project, and who knows, it could be 1, 2, 3 years until you're done and your kid will already be going to college.
I agree Ferd estimates are high, but wont it feel good to be done beofre you think you should be.....
word to the wise, when pushing the caliper pistons back in... remove the brake resirour cap and keep an eye on the fluid level... dont let it overfill... use a medicine syringe from any local pharmacy to suck some out - they hand them out for free (kids size)
Ed, when you say you lowered your motor, how much did you lower it, and besides removing 2 nuts, other than supporting the motor, do you have to remove anything else on the motor topside to allow for a drop? I could do my coolant tank, spark plugs/tubes, and AOS at the same time couldn't I?
it will go down about 4 inches...? a jack with a thick hunk of plywood under the oil pan or on the rear cross mounting bar... loosen (remove) the 2 nuts and lower it till it almost reats on the cross member at the trans/engine split line.. you can actually rest it on there but I dont -- pretty big gain not sure it helps for spark plugs... removing the mufflers is the biggest gain of space there and if you have done that a couple times its like a 10 min/side job....dont forget to run the car without the mufflers to see what you are missing by not running bypass ppipes
yes, estimates are high.... but in all reality, I take into account when sh*t happens, **** brakes, lunch... etc... and taking your time and doing it right the first time. We are weekend warriors and time is on our side.... why rush.
Brake pads.... yes that includes taking tires off.... how else can you changed them....
Brake ducts?.... Ive done plenty of them, taking them off and putting a new pair on doesnt take 5 min.
No rushing. If you've done brakes so many times, it should be simple. PB Blaster on the caliper bolts before you start the job, if you need to change the rotors.
I asked if 1.5-2 hours includes taking the wheels off because changing the pads alone surely doesn't take 1.5-2 hours, even on all 4. These are floating calipers afterall. I did the rear pads on my S500 (floating calipers) in 30 mins, no rushing, including jacking the car up.
The GT3 brake ducts simply clip on. If the car is already on the jackstands, I don't know why it would take longer than 5 mins for both.
AOS on the other hand...is a different story.
Nice guys! Well I'm hanging out in the engineers condo in Tucsob reading the new UK mag "classic porsche" and thinking about the aos. I'll tackle that job firstm my thoughts are that I'll get the scary stuff done first. Maybe even getting the car up on Jacks in the morning.
One question, how do you guys remove the vibration dampners? And what glue do you use to put them on the new pads?
'Engineers condo'!? If you were in the UK you'd be reading that mag in a static 'engineers caravan' sucking carbon monoxide from an unsafe gas heater and pumping the chemical craper by hand. . . .
I need you to come and fix my car. I've cut so many trees down prior to doing my roof that I can't even let the dog out back for a ****
My wife commented that your dobie needs to go for walkies. His nails are too long! Shame on you jizz boy.
As for the condo it's a three bedroom nested between18 holes at Sunset and 18 holes of Sunrise golf courses for the Sheraton el conquistador. Sounds swank until you walk in to oak furniture, desks, engineering books plotters in the dining room.
In all honesty it looks like some house you would see on 60min that was about some cult finding god underground.
Hopefully hughes will comment on you issue.
Lol - I thought you where going to say she commented on his weight - I've been giving him too many treats. I won't cut his nails as they're all black and it's too hard to know when you cut too much off(bleeds a lot). He gets groomed once a month professionally, mainly because he starts to smell. They do his ears and nails - think they use a fancy file. It could be a result of his advanced age. If she's really worried about him she can have him. He got off his plush blanket on the leather couch last night and pooped as he walked across the room, unaware he was doing it. When questioned about it he simply wagged his stumpy tail and eyeballed the cookie jar. . . .
Ed did comment. I have formulated a plan for the weekend assuming the baby doesn't arrive.
I guess you're not a golfer?
Good luck with the weekend project. My old man used to make me fix his car too. I think his excuse wasn't that he couldn't reach it but his eyesight wasn't up to par. Funny as it seems ok 20 years later.
yes, for the motor (car secure on stands or lift) lower it by use of a small jack... hydrolic floor jack is fine.. you never lift the car by the motor but you can lift and lower the motor by the motor
Ha! Everyone else golfs in the company. I'm horrible at it.
And you get you're dogs groomed? Mine end up in the shower. They leave smelling like Pantene and I leave smelling like a wet dog.
As for your old man. I remember getting into his kegs of home brew then going out and making bonfires on Wentworth Golf Course at 2am, picking up Cath and Lauren.... Probably should have went out and did that last night in Tucson.....(The bonfire, not picking up ladies.)
