I was able to drive 500 miles prior to replacing my leaking coolant tank but it was to and from work and I kept my eye on the coolant level and temperature display.

The car has started to leave a puddle when i park it (near the driver exhaust side ) and I realize that i likely need to change the tank.

The car has started to leave a puddle when i park it (near the driver exhaust side ) and I realize that i likely need to change the tank.
Next Tuesday i have a business trip that would entail drive up through a national park here in Quebec with a lot of curves and i would love to take the car on the approx 800 mile round trip.
I won't have the time to buy and install the tank before then.
If i just need to top up the tank each day that doesn't bother me...am i taking a risk that the tank will crack open more and that i might get stranded because all of the coolant leaks out?

Mine doesn't leave puddles, but I think my tank is cracked and leaks when up to temp. I have been adding distilled water for awhile now, and keep my eye on the tank level and my engine temp. I do plan to replace it before winter sets in. I replaced my cap 1st 3 yrs. ago.
Yep, could also be the waterpump. Had mine replaced about a month ago. DO NOT DRIVE till fix or you will see white smoke through your rear view mirror. Not to mention it may reuine your serpentine belt.

Water pump leaks doesn't show on the driver's side tail pipe. Yours, is a coolant leak.
You need to consider the risks. If you want to take the trip with a gallon of coolant on the trunk, that's fine. Be aware that the tank takes a lot of water/coolant, so one gallon of the diluted porsche formula may not be enough.
