Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

On Sat the front calipers changed from Silver to a goldish hue.
Leading evidence: 'Replace from silver' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Last run yesterday the pedal started to squish.....I knew the brake fluid boiling so I pulled off.

I was using the brakes hard coming in to corners with some trail braking at times.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yesterday I completed my first DE of the Season. Had a great time with the Central Indiana PCA, met new faces and great instructor. This was also my first track experience with the upgraded X74. What a difference and again I want to thank a few of you for the nudge! The car reacted quicker than before and my hands had to adjust to match. Very happy camper today but tired. The only down side is.......I have upgraded the suspension.....to keep up with the suspension I need better brake pads (Pagid Yellows?), got to find some decent seats, my body is sore from all the bracing I was doing...that means I need a harness bar....than the tires come into play....the Sumi's held up but they were yelling at me.
All in all it was a great weekend here in Indy. The Sat dinner was across the street from the 500 raceway...we had a police escort to dinner with the lead motorcycle cop jumping on his seat, standing up with arms spread traveling at 45 MPH.
Would like some feedback on pads and fluid. Also the 'Brake Wear' light came on. I don't have the brake sensor wires attached to the Hawk HP's...been that way for a year (3 DE's worth) and no issues before. Could the loose wire have touched metal to create the light? Would the OBD II clear it? Thoughts?
The pic is from Sat.......Solo'd 3 runs yesterday.
And yes I passed the instructor in the Mini!
Before buying a new seat or harness, try the seatbelt trick.
1. Slide your seat all the way back.
2. Yank on your seatbelt to lock it.
3. Slide your seat back forward.
I just joined the CIN PCA. Look forward to meeting some of you guys.
If you're ever interested in autox, let me know.
LVDell is your best point of info for that. He has the lowdown on what is "best for you" (not just "best")
there is some paint you can put on the calipers that tells you your temp range.. you pick pads based on that info (or Dell will have a suggestion if you dont want to go "that far")
were you having any braking issues? - I was worried in my car since the brakes are 1/2 the size of the 996, but "I" was fine - though I will admit I am not any where near "the fast guys"
(but that is not my goal this year
)
Thumbs up for X74!!
I'm not sure how to advise you on pads - because I use pretty serious track pads (Pagid Orange or Black, or PFC 97).
As for fluid, any good fluid - ATE super blue, SFR, Motul, Endless, etc. - should all work well and should be, at a minimum, completely flushed on an annual basis.
As for seats and harnesses, I have a GT3 seat in my car with a Braycrause harness bar.
On Sat the front calipers changed from Silver to a goldish hue. I was using the brakes hard coming in to corners with some trail braking at times. I heated the calipers pretty good. Last run yesterday the pedal started to squish.....I knew the brake fluid boiling so I pulled off.
Pete, as your pads get thinner, the transfer more heat to the caliper, which can then overheat the fluid. But, more likely, if you were on stock pad, you just exceeded the pad's ability.
By last night the wheels were heavily coated with brake dust and small magnetic fibers. This was only on both fronts....more on the left front because 8 of the 10 turns were right turns.
Road America DE in July so new pads and fluid are a must.
Pete,
Hi there! it was a pleasure driving with you. I hope I wasn't a bad influence, as I now see that you are considering some of the upgrades we chatted about
Let me know what you decide to do for the thrid DE, if I can I'll try to make it.
Sanjeevan
It was great to drive with you yesterday and yes you ARE a bad influence
I will make it a point to contact you for the 3rd DE. Maybe Putnam again or Mid-Ohio.
BTW shouldn't you be drilling out cavities? I bet you are multi tasking like yesterday..
No, but have thought about that too. There is a pair F/S that I saw this morning. Quite the early Xmas list I have put together since yesterday.......you guys might see me at a offramp near you with a sign saying 'Will Work for Porsche Parts'!
If I was a bad influence , you just wait and see what these guys do to you...before you know it, you'll pretty much have a cup car. Why do you think I had to quit DE's cold turkey.
Putnam or Mid-Ohio would be great, and if the wknd. works for me I'll be there. But, go up a group though...so we'll be in the same group again.
I dunno the difference between cup ducts and regular GT3 ducts but regular ones are about $30 plus shipping. They want an arm and a leg for the cup ones and it will get crushed if you DD...

Seriously, Pete, get back to work.
BTW, word in the paddock was that the Mini was riding your sorryslowass all the way around the track, waiting for a point-by.
Oh, and Mr. X74I'veGotTiresTwoInchesWiderThanYours... your best lap times were not much better than the guy in the black 964 PoS, according to the GPS data. Not that anyone keeps track of timing in DE's.
And, how many OTE's did you have? None? Then your sorryslowass was just not really pushing it, hmmm?
We sure had FUN !!! Let's do it again.
Hi, Darrell, LOVE your car......so, have you decided what you want to do with those tires?
Sorry, I didn't stay till the very end, the fuel warning came up and I left a little early. Thanks for sharing the canopy and chairs, and hope to see at your last event.
Does OTE have anything to do with your tendency yesterday to evaluate the height of the grass by driving thru it?
It was a blast though.......BACK TO WORK!
Pete....PM'd ya!
And by the way, OEM fluid, ATE Gold, and Super BLue are all the same and NOT suitable for the track if you are doing anything more than driving like grandma
Check out PFC97's for pads. Cheaper than Pagids, easier on rotors, last a long time, and they work great. That's what I race on. As far as fluid, I would either go Motul 600 or SRF. SRF is my choice. You only have to boil fluid once to decide you don't want to do that again, and SRF, while expensive, is the best way possible to avoid boiling brake fluid.
Once you upgrade your brakes, they will overpower your tires, so you will end up with a second set of wheels with track tires on them. Nitto NT01's are a good choice as long as you don't have to drive in the rain.
Really though, your best, and ultimately most cost effective option is to sell your street car and buy a dedicated track car now. You'll be there soon anyway. Ask me how I know...
Pete, If you keep an eye on your pads... just sodder your sensor wires together... no more light. Most likely, you have a cut sensor or its been unplugged somehow...
