I did move the temp control from the bottom, to the top, using the correct brackets and bezel.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After reading here, and youtube videos, I went with the plastic cap repair. A small bead of clear rtv to hold them in. I will let it sit overnight. Here is the dilemma though, I only see one blend door. In most videos, there are 2. Am I missing something? Mine is a 2001. I tried all the different settings, and only see the one door.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No matter the setting, I only see the one door, through the center stack. Maybe there is another somewhere else. I did move the temp control from the bottom, to the top, using the correct brackets and bezel. I removed the (mostly) useless cupholder and cd holder. I put in the two lower cubbies. Storage!

POST 3Original post

This video shows you how to get to the other door and get it out. You Tube

I want to do the same in mine. Was it hard to make the change and get rid of the cup holder or was it a basic switch?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

not super difficult. I had to remove the lower console to fish the temp control wires up behind the stereo. Not a lot of room without doing that. You have to get the brackets for the temp contol for the upper position. They are kinda triagle shaped.

I recently acquired A low milage Tip 996.2 cab. Long time 911/356 owner but this is my first water cooled 911. First time out learning HVAC controls I had initially what looked like midge flies shooting from my vents along with black substance on floor mats and dash. Researched and this is a common issue rarely mentioned in buyer guides. After learning cause and repair I wonder if any one tried vacuuming the foam fragments out through interior vents? Im thinking I will create covers to seal each vent and then one that fits my shop vac. Im thinking if I do the vacuum routine multiple times under different vent patterns I can suck out most of whats loose. My 996.2 will be driven mostly with top down so temp control is not as much an issue as the foam fragments flying out of my vents.

POST 8Original post

I could be wrong but it looks like your other blend door has already been repaired. I think it's the thing with the white strips on it in your first picture. Check this video starting at about the 10 minute mark. You Tube

My 98 C2 - I did just that. Run fan on high, blew most of the foam out, vacuumed with a shop vac and used some tweezers. Did this a couple of times and then it stopped. Still blows hot and cold very well. I will never go in that far to repair. Just something I live with. But not really, it seems to still work just fine.

You probably have only lost the foam on one of the two doors. Also there is a plastic backing piece that may still be hanging on for dear life in there.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
