I've changed the oil in that Boxster now close to 40 times (every 5K miles and car has over 226K miles on it) and every time I've changed the oil I've done it with the rear tires on the ramps and the front tires on the ground.

But I was curious and looking for a large extra volume of oil to appear, so I placed a clean dry drain pan under oil drain and raised the front of the car and there was hardly any extra oil.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm about to place my order for the following parts: Oil Filter Oil pan drain plug/washer Pollen Filter ATE Typ 200 or Motul 5.1 Brake Fluid 10 litres of Lubro-Moly 5w40 synthetic Front and rear windshield wipers And I think that should cover it. However, I see there is a Porsche oil filter wrench, and since I have never looked at the oil filter housing, I don't know exactly how it is designed. Most of the drop in oil filter housings I have seen all have a molded nut that is either 32 or 36mm integrated into the cap of the housing. Is that not how it is on the 911? Do I need to purchase this oil filter wrench? And am I missing any items? I don't need an air filter since I have the EvoMS V-Flow intake. Thanks, - Anthony

POST 2Original post

Yes, you need the standard porsche/bmw oil filter socket. This looks like the one I have: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCE...Q5fAccessories

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah, 74mm and 14 sides? My ex girlfriend had a 97 C280 and it took that same filter. I am pretty sure I have one already in my tool chest. Looks like I should be good to go.

If for some reason it doesn't fit, you can get one that does from Autozone.

POST 5Original post

I've got a strap wrench that fits every oil filter I've had. Apparently it's possible to break the housing, but the strap is big enough to spread out the applied force so I'm not too worried about it. I just got tired of buying a different filter wrench for every car I've owned, just a pain.

Pollen filter? (Cabin Filter) charcoal Air Filter?

POST 11Original post

I don't need an air filter since I have the EvoMS V-Flow intake. Sorry didn't see that

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Called up Suncoast and ordered the parts today. They have 10% off until December 3rd, so if you need anything, it's a good time to order.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just updating this thread. I did the service the other day and swapped on my winter wheels as well. Oil change was super simple. I just backed the car up onto ramps, and then while the oil was draining, I raised the front of the car with two jacks so that it would be level. Once all the oil was out, I lowered the front, put everything back together, and refilled with 8.5 liters of Lubro-Moly 5w40. I didn't flush the brakes this time, even though it has been two years (only 5,000 miles though) because I ran out of time, and I'm going to wait until spring when I get the car on a lift. Then I'll flush the brakes and the clutch with the 1.5 liters of Motul 5.1 that I purchased. Oh, and the 74mm 14 flute filter wrench that I had worked just fine. No reason to spend the $30 for the porsche one, as stated in this thread. - Anthony

Save yourself some trouble next time and don't bother to raise front to level just for oil drain. Oil will drain just fine with rear of car on ramps. The sump will not allow oil to puddle with that small of an incline. BTW, I tried this once with my Boxster and didn't get any extra oil to drain. I didn't wait until the oil stopped draining, it was still coming out in a thin thin stream. But I was curious and looking for a large extra volume of oil to appear, so I placed a clean dry drain pan under oil drain and raised the front of the car and there was hardly any extra oil. Maybe a quarter of a cup which probably would have come out anyway had I waited until the oil stopped draining before raising the front of the car level. I've changed the oil in that Boxster now close to 40 times (every 5K miles and car has over 226K miles on it) and every time I've changed the oil I've done it with the rear tires on the ramps and the front tires on the ground. Sincerely, Macster.
