Anyway, for those of you who use Blackstone or some other lab, keep tabs on your trends and maybe....just maybe....there's a canary that we've missed.

I realize that there are few people here who use Blackstone, etc., for regular oil analyses...and this is not an attempt to spark a knee-jerk debate about its value for your 996/997.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For those few of you who do oil analyses, it would be worth it to see if you get any kind of spike or trend upward before an IMS failure. I realize that there are few people here who use Blackstone, etc., for regular oil analyses...and this is not an attempt to spark a knee-jerk debate about its value for your 996/997. On the other hand, if Raby & others have generally claimed that the IMS failure is, in part, due to the diluting and loss of the IMS grease by the motor oil -- wouldn't it be interesting if we could find an element that's in the grease -- so that when it starts to appear in the oil, we know that the grease in the IMS bearing is starting to get washed out by motor oil? It would be ideal if there was some kind of anti-wear element (e.g., lithium) that is in the grease, but not in the motor oil so you could use that as a leading indicator of problems. Anyway, for those of you who use Blackstone or some other lab, keep tabs on your trends and maybe....just maybe....there's a canary that we've missed.
