Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After a repair to the cylinder head and assembling the engine, it has started to make the typical clack-clack noise in a hydraulic lifter. When I start the engine cold it doesn't do it, but when it warms up it starts to do it, after a trip if I leave it idling for a few minutes the noise disappears. Likewise at high revs it is not heard either. Any solution to eliminate this noise without having to open the engine again? I use mobil1 5w50 oil.

POST 2Original post

I don't think there is a solution other than replacing the offending lifter unit.

POST 3Original post

I had luck with Marvels in a 1986 Audi 4000 quattro 2.1 five cylinder. I ultimately pulled the cam and replaced the lifters. Use at your discretion.
