I have used the paintless dent guys before, great results, but these are more creases or stress lines than an actual dent.

Not sure about new cost, but a couple hundred for a pre-owned is fair, then you get to have it painted (new or used there)

let's say that it's good that they're small, otherwise she would fill more than the full dresser drawer that she already has.

You may want to get a few more creases before replacing the hood.

I really do have a GT2 hood in perfect condition in my garage (speed yellow) The plan is to replace my hood someday with it, but since I am taking SO many chips from driving so much, I hate to put nice new paint of the old girl right now...

She's still in great shape, but not as flat as she used to be - Sadly that's not going to change until she has time to get back into her regular gym routine.

So the missus and I were out the other night, come home and she gets a little frisky. I'm like...drape yourself over the Porsche, be a great pic! All good. A few days later I am washing it and notice the hood has a few what I would call creases, not really dings or dents. You have to look at the hood just right to see them. I have used the paintless dent guys before, great results, but these are more creases or stress lines than an actual dent. Looks like I may have to spring for a new hood as they are really not that noticeable but I know they are there...you know how it is. Did the same pose on her Mercedes and my BMW with no probs, I guess the Porsche sheet metal is way thinner. And, no, she doesnt weigh 200 pounds.
Funny what seems like a good idea when you've had a few
+1 on the pics!
I would have a paintless dent guy take a shot at it before you decide to get a new hood. The cost is not that bad and could save you a lot of $$$$ on the hood, paint, etc.

Reminds me there's someone in the 993 forum that has an avatar with a woman's imprint on a dusty Volvo, it's pretty funny actually....
Going to call the PDR guy Monday and will see if the creases can be gotten out. Really not that bad, but you know how it is when you know something is there.
post the "rest of the pics" and I will mail you a new hood - just happen to have one in the garage but the "ornament" doesnt look quite right on mine.....
j/k with all due respect, thats a good story and interesting to know....funny kind of too
Yes it was worth it...cant tell you the rest of that story. I drive the car and its got 70K on it so I'm not stressing, its not a show car. I would send a pic but it really hard to see. The hood is really not that bad, but like I said above if you know its there it bugs the crap out of you.
I have a vintage 280z and the sheet metal on that is super thin, too. Had to bang out tons of little dimples before I had it painted.
I've always wanted to do a photo set like that, but have been afraid of exactly that happening.... plus it would be a pain to set up the lighting in my messy garage.
Me too. But, my garage would be
really
messy with my blood after my wife found me doing a photo shoot with some chick. The creases in the hood of my car would be from the impact of my very unconscious head.
out of respect for the OP... I have opted NOT to add additional comments regarding this.... I know sooner or later I will stick my big fat foot in my mouth.....
Well, that IS my wife and it was her idea...so I'm in the clear there! Not bad for 2 kids and just turned 40. When I met her she was driving an M3..my kinda gal. Just like a Porsche, however, hi maint !
Yup, I'm impressed... I'm guessing the weather is warmer where you are, as my garage is freezing right now, so there's no way my wife is going out there.
Male chauvanist pig alert: Page 2 of the chick owners manual....get a few drinks in 'em and their tolerance for all sorts of debauchery goes down significantly.
Trick is to not go over the edge and have her pass out on you- kinda like building a race engine..cross a certain line and "ka boom"
Yeah, I'll post a pic of my wife huddled alongside her new 328, dressed in a down parka, shivering, and clutching a cup of hot coffee. Sort of the same idea, right??
....OK, getting back to the hood..talked to the PDR guy just a minute ago. He says if there is a "hard crease" he cant do much with it. Apparently once the metal acquires a bend past a certain point, you cant really get it out. If the metal stretches you cant get the genie back in the bottle, so to speak. Coming over next weekend to take a shot at it. Assuming that is fruitless, how much do you think Dr. Porsche ING wants for a new hood?
Yup - that's just sooo sexy... the only time that works is when there's nothing on under the parka and it involves playing in the snow... for some reason my wife will not go for that, no matter how many times I ask.
they usually charge $150 per panel. If there are 2 dings on 1 panel still $150, but 1 ding in 2 seperate panel... $300. etc...
That's the price local to me
Hoods come across the block pre-owned quite often... Not sure about new cost, but a couple hundred for a pre-owned is fair, then you get to have it painted (new or used there)
I really do have a GT2 hood in perfect condition in my garage (speed yellow) The plan is to replace my hood someday with it, but since I am taking SO many chips from driving so much, I hate to put nice new paint of the old girl right now... maybe before I sell if that day comes (paid for it with some other parts so not really sure how much I paid, but it was a good deal....and I CAN use it -unlike the other parts-)
Need a GT2 OEM wing???
Great post. You are one lucky man.
You may want to get a few more creases before replacing the hood. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Got a feeling this Volvo got a few creases and scratches as well... Albeit safe sex was practiced on it for sure.
PDR guy is coming on Wed. If he cant remedy it, I will be interested in your hood.
And, no, not stock cans.......!
If we get to 50 posts I might post another pic when I get back on Wed....
I don't care if they're not stock - they're fine aftermarket additions. I'm sure we would all like to inspect them more closely.
I wonder if we can get a group buy together. I've always been a big fan of modding.
Ed, look what you made me go and say.
Now, if you have suggestions on good Porsche poses that don't involve damaging the hood I'd be open to tips.
Are you going to claim the hood replacement on an insurance policy or is it an out of pocket expense? Perhaps something like "slipping on a wet driveway with bags of groceries and voila dents...."

Guys we are already above 50 mosts. He (Chart505) didn't say 50 MORE posts, he just said 50 posts.
I can't wait until Wednesday!!
It's sad, but I think this is going to be the highlight of my week!
Chart you are the MAN for posting that pic ! Thanks VR are you dead? How have you stayed out of this? How has this stayed up ?
I think we may have discovered a new thread topic or forum. The heck with watches.
Chart505,
I just couldn't resist the opportunity to thank you for this thread. You are a leader and I think it would behoove all of us followers oogling your wife here to reciprocate. We need to give eternal life to this thread by anty-ing up as well. However, none of those professional models/photos from the "I'd hit it!" thread. I suggest, as above, that they be potential calendar girls for next year's GoR calendar. Just be sure she is willing and knows it, or your hoods will get creased far beyond "barely visible" (pun intended).
But Chart, this is your thread. I can hardly wait until Wednesday. If you want the ooglers to put then say so. Otherwise, I am quite satisfied with whatever morsels you pitch our way with your beautiful wife.
While we're waiting....
Has anyone ever noticed before that certain versions of the "Flying Lady" hood ornament, she actually appears to be on her knees?
Indeed Dave. And while we wait for Wednesday.... Are we there yet?
Here's an interesting link on the
"Flying Lady"
From the text: -"Arond the end of the twenties a new body line of Sports Saloons had reduced the height of the coachwork. Royce was prompted to think about a lower variation of the Spirit of Ecstasy, by which alteration a driver might benefit from clear vision even with the windscreen lower and his seating position reduced in turn. The scultor (Sykes) created a kneeling version of the mascot, which fulfilled this requirement.
The kneeling version remained after the Second World War for the new Silver Wraith and Silver Dawn. All following models, however, sported a standing mascot, although this has now been reduced in size considerably compared to the old one"-

Agreed! I think that the more photos the better. We just need some good weather so that I can get my wifey to pose with the car.
...man, I badly need a beach vacation.
Thinking about this one for our Xmass cards....too bad the garage is such a mess. Good news, the PDR guy is pretty confident he can get the issues resolved.
thank you for this thread.
maybe you should leave the dent...I know you will always notice them but it will bring back good memories and a smile to you face
Really, who cares about a few damages to the hood!!! It is great that you are enjoying your car and your wife like that. Very lucky man indeed.
Enjoy both in good health.
PS - Note to self... must visit this forum more often
I'm sure she would be! And really, I see nothing wrong with the pics. Basically, it's like she's in her bikini's, pretty decent I'd say.....
so MORE decent pics!!!
Wow, love the winter wonderland pic- I have messed around w PS a little but you are clearly a pro.
"Eh, I showed this thread to my father - he loved it. I showed it to my wife - she was disgusted"
What is disgusting about a pretty girl on a pretty car in a sexy pose? You see more crass stuff today at 8pm on CBS and NBC. I guess there wont be a pic from ya. Anyone who doesnt recognize and enjoy the sex appeal of a Porsche is missing at least part of the fun.
Lastly, never seen anything like this on pre 996 forums..those guys are pretty stiff. 996 owners rock.
There ya go, it's a worldwide phenomenon!
According to Fast 40th, it's even galaxy-wide, ha!
Timmy has to fess up though -- does your wife know about this other "woman"?
Nothing disgusting at all about the female form and there was nothing indecent about any of the photos posted.
As for a photo of one of my wife's bikinis - here's one of the ones that offers more coverage.
Yes, she has had several sets of photos featured on the WW website.
Now were getting somewhere...does that even qualify as a bikini? Nice shot indeed!
More pics! We will make this thread a monster. I dont know about you but as long as I am losing my *** to Obama might as well have a little fun, that is still free.
Fast40- I have messed around w PS a little- how do you get the edges so clean? I suppose just
practice?
Thanks.
I am lucky that my wife owns way more WW products than she can ever wear, but I'll never complain. She likes them and I like them. It's a win-win.
Nice car, nice wife...what more can ya ask for? What exactly is a Wicked Weasel?
The 300lb PDR guy shows up tomorrow, hopefully fixes my hood. While he is here going to have him take a couple of door dings out of my 745i and wife's Merc as well. Total bill maybe $300 or so- a bargain IMO.
Thanks.
Wicked Weasel make very nice minimal coverage bikinis and thongs.
http://wickedweasel.com/en-us
At this point I think my wife has around 10 of their bikinis and as for their others stuff... let's say that it's good that they're small, otherwise she would fill more than the full dresser drawer that she already has.
i dig the headlights...
wasnt sure why there were so many replies to a "hood ornament" topic. clear as day now! ive never seen a married woman who looks as fit as she does. did i mention i dig the headlights?
Oh yes - mine too!
I visit the site frequently... .any nice new style (most of them!) ends up getting ordered... typically we end up placing a large order with them around twice a year.
Sadly, with us having two kids in the last three years we've not managed a nice beach vacation, so I don't have any recent photos... hopefully we'll manage to get to the beach again this year, so that I can submit another set to the website.
..we have lots of new bikinis that haven't been worn or photographed yet.
Thanks. 41 with 2 kids. Doesnt work out much, I can't figure it out, good genes I guess. I'm kinda dissapointed nobody else can get the wife's pants off and on the hood for a pic. Lots of fun, just keep it PG ! If you are smart enough to own a Porsche you must have some sales skills. Somebody keep the thread going
trust me... theres no fun in seeing my wife in lingerie. i would try if it was within a zip code of your wife.... really i would. i do love her tho, with all my heart!
Chartman: A bit of practice helps. There's many ways to do it, but I suggest you at least try the following:
Learn as much as you can about layers
Try the "magnetic lasso tool" for making selections
Try the "smudge" tool for blending and smoothing out edges
Play around with contrast, brigthness and white balance options within layers
And if you have additional pics that need background cleanup please post 'em.
She doesn't work out? Has 2 kids? That's impossible! I'm calling BS on this one. Her abs are way too flat. I don't see how this is genetically possible.
I have to admit that it surprises me also.
My wife was in great shape before we had our first kid. 3 years on, two kids later and no time to work out means that her abs are not as flat as they used to be. She's still in great shape, but not as flat as she used to be - Sadly that's not going to change until she has time to get back into her regular gym routine.
A little work here and there, didnt say she was stock model
But no BS, 2 kids. Amazing what little nip and tuck can do. If there are any MDs on the board you know what I mean.
thanks!--they are Champion RG5s. I saw them on RayS car and liked them a lot. The photo is in that "take 100 photos, throw 95 of them" category. Turned out kind of nice just by chance.
PS to the OP[edit: oops, you ARE the OP] PDR is really amazing. I put a small dent in the fender just above the light. Drove me nuts because the reflection was distorted. PDR took care of it in about 30 minutes just perfect. They had these special lights they used to exaggerate the effect while working on it.
Hi again! Here is a link to the specs. It might default to the 997 tab, but just switch to the 996 Fitment tab. By the way, I went with 18" diameter. Regarding a photo, hmmm, might leave that to spouses or professionals!

I had a chance to look at a lot of wheels at Wheel Enhancements (near LAX). Lots of nice options out there. One benefit of Champions (that Ii did not realize until later) is that they have a lot of smooth surfaces and are surprisingly easy to clean.
And there is DEFINITELY nothing wrong with that...
I wasn't going to get wrapped up in this thread... but couldn't help myself... (porsches and beautiful women - why else do we exist???)
It's not like it used to be, but there was a time when women used to judge others "are they real or natural?" They didn't like to know that we don't care... In the famous words of philosopher/comedian Ron White... "Once you seen one woman nekkid... you pretty much want to see them all..."
Well done Charty (in the most respectful way...)
Rudy
Man, I hope I don't spoil the BEST THREAD EVER by digressing. To all involved, I've enjoyed your humor and love of beauty.
Jon 996 and Ray S: I'm purchasably-impressed with the Champion RG5's. I think they look great. But I want to know this: why 18" instead of 19"? I know very little about wheels, but I know guys who race say 18's are lighter overall? Is that right? And what is the difference in ride quality on crappy roads like all roads seem to be these days? I ordered my yet-to-be-delivered C2 with 19" Classics, but can easily see investing in some RG5's.
First, you should know that I am a rookie so weight my opinions accordingly
I noticed you are from CA, so you should go 19" I think everyone from CA went 19"!
Regarding the decision for 18" vs 19", I liked the look of Ray's setup when I saw it.
Ride quality was a factor, but I did not have a chance to compare the two, of course.
This is my daily driver up here in MN, and we have REALLY bad roads, so concern over damage was a factor for me. 997s run on 19s, but have 0.5 to 1" greater rolling radius too. In other words, almost the same rubber between the rim and the road as the 18"s on a 996.
If I was going to guess, I think almost 80% of those buying aftermarket rims for 996s went 19"
Other factors that were not quite as important were less expensive tires and a wider range of tires available (for my setup).
They are available in 18" or 19" size so the choice is yours. I picked 18's because they are lighter (better for handling, braking, and acceleration), will ride better, and 18" tires are generally less expensive. The differences are not huge, but this car will eventually see the track so every little bit helps.
DPorcella - are you getting a base C2 (non-S) without PASM? If so you can drip down to 18" wheels without any problem. However if you added PASM to a base C2 or ordered a C2S, which comes with PASM, then I don't think you can drop down to 18" wheels. I don't know the specific reasons why, but with PASM, you must also get 19" wheels per Porsche.
