Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
Your weak starting was due to a battery that had reached the end of it's life.
Leading evidence: 'battery' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'battery' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace battery' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You did not have an issue with the battery clamp because you used the 48.

You would also need to change the standard starter.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just got myself a new battery from autozone.. I got the group 48 one but noticed it didn't have as much CCA as the 49. How will this affect the starts and life of the battery?

48DL from Autozone. Works fine. Who cares how long it last.
Under 2 year unconditional warranty and 7 year prorated
warranty. How can you go wrong for $68.
just wonder if the higher CA and CCA would give it a stronger startup.. I'm so accustom to my weak cranking old oem battery that I need some juice to fire my baby up..
Do porsches in general have weak start-ups?
I didnt' having any problems fitting the battery in the correct mount points like some of the others have stated. Mine also came with the vent tube and a plastic tree adapter to connect to the car's main overfill or air tube. Great deal!!
You did not have an issue with the battery clamp because you used the 48. The 49 is much wider and you would need to use the 4th hole for the bolt for the clamp. Problem is, other than a 1997 Boxste,r the 4th hole is not threaded for the bolt.
I was a history major so take this with a grain of salt.
Increasing the amp capacity of the battery is not going to do anything to the starter since the starter has it's own amp rating. You would also need to change the standard starter. That is why Porsche has a high capacity optional battery and starter for cold climates. Your weak starting was due to a battery that had reached the end of it's life.
good deal. thanks for everyones inputs.. Its funny, any new addition to the car makes me want to drive it even more. I know its just a battery but I find myself getting excited to just start her up..
Can't wait for the m030 install..
OK, need help.. The new battery was leaking acid so I had to swap it with a replacement.. As I was taking the old battery out it started to rain so I shut the hood.. (not very smart).. Now how the heck to I get it back open?
Your year has an electric trunk release. You are not supposed to shut the trunk with the battery out.
So use the red jumper thing in your fuse box with your new battery to open the front trunk. There is a diagram on the paper list on the back of the fuse cover and in your owners manual on how to do this with a dead in place battery. In your case try it with a new external battery and our original battery removed from the car.
Sorry, but I laughed out loud, HARD after reading this one!
You could try a cutting torch and some bolt cutters, but I think you would be better off in the long run if you followed Tool Pants' advice!
lol ok i deserve that one.. I was tired and kinda in a hurry to get the battery out and the pan cleaned up with baking soda and water.. It started to rain so I shut the hood not realizing what I had done until I got back from autozone with the new battery duh!!! I was able to search the forum and got the hood open with the same advise you suggested.. thanks
