When I purchased the car the previous owner installed a Blaupunkt headunit and CD changer.

Actually I have an eclipse headunit, GPS, and voice commander sitting here doing nothing that I wouldn't mind using but I don't feel like re-wiring the car with a new amp.

It looks like these are the two options if I want to do a plug and play installation with the factory amplifier in my '01 C4. Does anyone have any opinion on the relative quality of these two brands? I'm not a major audiophile but if someone has a strong opinion I'd listen.

What's wrong w your stock Becker? If it's broken, you can get a used one on eBay for cheap. Blaupunkt isn't really an improvement and nonstock head unit usually doesn't help resell value of car.
When I purchased the car the previous owner installed a Blaupunkt headunit and CD changer. The HU is crapping out and I'm trying to decide if I should pick up a becker and go back to stock another Blaupunkt. Sounds like you're leaning towards the Becker...
Eclipse is good and superior to either one you mentioned. But, betwn your two choices, I'd go w Becker.
What's your setup right now? 01 C4 probly has the HIFI option orginally. Any CD stack? To get the best sound, you should opt for a better amp, HU, spkrs.

I haven't been able to find wiring that allows me to either reuse the stock amp (RCA pre-outs on HU) or at the very least wire an aftermarket amp to the exisiting wiring harness. Any suggestions?
I'm not certain if the car has the hi-fi option or not, it has a six channel amp driving the speakers.

I think you have the HIFI option since you have an ext amp in the front trunk. Bose came out in 02 so that limits to HIFI only.
I'd put that Eclipse into your car. Which one do you have? Is the GPS screen a flip screen or a fix screen into the dash that's double DIN? I can recall if Eclipse made a flip screen but I do like their fix screen and it's much easier to install than other GPS headunit since all the DVD, CD, drives and GPS parts are all 1 unit.
If your Eclipse HU is double DIN sized fix screen, you'll have to relocated your AC control to the lower console where your storage bin is. You may want a pro to do this.
