Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
Turned out to be the throttle body that had failed (e-gas).
Leading evidence: 'throttle body' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'throttle body' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean maf etc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was out last night in my friends 2003 996 and noticed a delay in throttle when you blip the throttle for down shifts and also under constant pedal position there was a surge in power at about 3200 rpm.
Is this normal? I've driven other 996s and didn't remember them doing that.
Sounds like variocam to me too, but it should be fairly smooth power delivery, certainly a little noticeable though at WOT especially on the higher gears at higher speeds.
Could be e-gas playing tricks but doubt it ! Cable operated is moooo better. Love my dual row, 5 chains, and cable throttle :-)
Also dirty T/B, MAF.
I get a very noticeable surge at around 3000-3200 RPMs in just about every gear. Along with the surge you can even hear a difference in the exhaust note. I thought it was just the variocam+.
The surge from VarioCamPlus should be as you move through the rpm range rather than at a constant pedal. I was getting this surging on my 3.4 for a long time. It was mostly when the engine had not fully warmed up and it would surge as I cruised around at a constant pedal position. I tried cleaning the MAF etc. and still had the surge. Then one day the throttle quit working almost completely. It would hardly rev the engine and under load would not go above 2,000 rpm. Turned out to be the throttle body that had failed (e-gas). I replaced it and the problem has never returned so it would appear that it was a failing throttle body that was causing the surging.
By the way the best price I found for a throttle body was at KOPerformance.com.
