Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, my local Porsche Center confirmed my fear of a toasted ABS unit. They quoted me an insane price for a new one (approx $10,000USD!). I told them to give me the part number from the one that sits in my car right now so l can do some research. I'd like to find out if it's possible to get a hold of a remanufactured unit, or even a used one. Any advice on when to look? ebay.de?

Thanks, guys. It is beyond my understanding why this particular unit comes at such a great expense. Is it made out of some rare, unique metal?

Obviously Thanks again, guys.

I have a used one sitting. I paid $90 USD on eBay. Let me know if you would be interested? If they give you your part number, post it and I will check to see if it is the same as the one I have.

I had the same problem with my abs unit being toast.. for what is available on the used market and price on eBay I went that route. Check to make sure its a exact fit..as i found out 1 pumps later.. usually you have 3 styles to chose from..depending on the brake lines going into the unit; 1st, style...4 on top 1 on the back 2nd style ...4 or top 2 on the back 3rd style...4 on top 2 on the back plus sensor on the back side....this is the one I has ...and the most expensive! Good luck, Daniel K.

"It is beyond my understanding why this particular unit comes at such a great expense. Is it made out of some rare, unique metal?" ^^ Really?^^

POST 15Original post

I checked with the manufacturer and it is indeed made out of Unobtanium

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The part number is 996 355 955 40 (the earliest version?) When searching, I'm getting plenty of returns showing units with part number 996 355 755 40 (with a 7 instead of a 9)... is it a typo from the guy who sent me the part number on my unit, or is it actually a different part? They look identical to me.

POST 17Original post

Found this in Craigslist https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/pts...685301111.html

Thanks, but it's still the same issue with a "7" instead of a "9" in the part number☹ My car also has PSM.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just came across this: Superseded Part Number:996 355 755 40, 996 355 955 40, 996 355 955 60, 996 612 340 00 Other Part Number:0265202424 99661234000 Interchange Part Number:996.355.755.40, 996.355.955.40, 996.355.955.60, 996.612.340.00 Manufacturer Part Number: 99635575540 99635595540 99635595560 996355955x So if I'm reading this right, part number 966 355 755 40 superseded part number 966 355 955 40. As mentioned, most of the results I get when searching for part number 955 40 returns the 755 40 as a compatible/interchangeable part. I'm very tempted to give it a shot.

Just out of interest are they serviceable?

POST 21Original post

They aren't intended to be servicable, but to a large extent they are.
