Can't remember the details but I have a low deductible and checked the expensive boxes.

I recently changed my homeowner's policy from Farmers to Geico and aside from the usual mundane questions about the house, they also wanted to know how far away the closest fire hydrant is and how far the closest fire station is.

Hagerty seems to be about the same, but website not working right to adjust liability coverages.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm curious what people are paying for insurance. If you care to share that information, please indicate what state you are in and whether it is standard or specialty (with mileage limits) insurance.
My insurance is a standard policy (no mileage/usage restrictions) in New Jersey for a 2000 996 C2 coupe. Two drivers, no tickets. There are 3 cars on the policy, the premium for just the 996 is $1820 a year, fees broken down as follows:
PIP: $545
Bodily injury: $806
Comprehensive: $104
Collision: $324
Towing & Labor: $8.00
Rental: $33
$221 annually. Grundy classic car insurance. Less than 5k miles a year I think, can't be my everyday commute vehicle, and has to be stored in a garage. I'm in Dallas Texas.
29 dollars a month. The cheapest minimum stripped down policy possible with the General and Shaquille O'neal. I don't think its worth paying over 100 bucks a month in my situation. The car gets driven twice a month.
$1127/year - 5000 miles limit. Multi-car (3) and bundled home owners insurance discount. Clean record. Allstate. New York metro area.
Note: It was about twice that when I had Liberty Mutual and didn't bundle the home owners policy.
I think it's time to shop around for insurance again.
My Turbo is only $106/mo for full coverage (Seattle), but considering how little it gets driven I should look into something like Hagerty or Grundy.
Wow, some of the numbers on here are shockingly high! I'm at ~$380/year with State Farm. Pretty standard coverage, and I keep it to less than 7500 miles/year. 2 cars and 2 drivers on the policy. Some minor discounts for accident free, multi-line, home bundle, etc. etc. but that stuff doesn't dramatically change the price.
I have an agreed $35,000 value with Hagerty for $579.00 per year. The car has to be garaged and has a mileage limit although I don't recall what it is. Multi-car and good driver discounts.
I've been with them for 15 years and I think they take me for granted. In the fall, I'm going to shop around before automatically renewing with them.
lol. "colorful" is how I describe my college years.
$793/year with Liberty Mutual in NJ. Full coverage, $1k deductible. 3 cars, 2 drivers. 2003 c4s is $600 cheaper to insure than 2014 Volt and $400 cheaper than 2014 Mini.
I've seen some really good rates in here and I thought my rates were pretty good. We pay $180 per month for 4 cars, 2 newer Audis, my 911 and an old Ranger that has the bare minimum.
i believe mine is around 110 per month for my c2 but thats only because we have our house, 2 other cars, boat and motorcycle with state farm, MI insurance sucks!
Rates will vary a great deal depending on where you are, driving records, ages of drivers, etc....
Might be best to use relative terms. The cost for our '03 C2 is pretty close to what we pay for our '16 Impreza. In other words, pretty close to a newer "family" car.
Isn't it kind of hard to have a meaningful discussion without knowing what types of coverage, deductibles, limits, riders, driver demographics, applied discounts, etc.? I've had liability only policies that were very inexpensive, and others that had every kind of coverage, low or no deductibles, high limits and every rider under the sun that cost a fortune, as well as several policies in between. Multi vehicle, multiple policy, good student, and other discounts... Simply adding a teen driver to the policy doubled our auto insurance.
$468.00 per year includes $40.00 up-charge for power/weight ratio, high deductible, and bundled with my homeowner's policy along with our Porsche Macan and BMW 540i in suburban PA. /X3
Yo. YT1,
Who is Porsche Insurance? That's a great rate. I am around $672/yr with Infinity - $35k agreed value. 5k miles, garaged, limited drive to work, Bodily Injury Liability ($250,000 each person/$500,000 each accident), Property Damage Liability ($100,000 each accident); Medical Benefits ($1,000 Limit); Uninsured Motorist - BI ($100,000 each person/$300,000 each accident); Collision (250 deductible), Comprehensive w/Glass (250 w/ Glass)
.
$933/year. Massachusetts. Liberty Mutual. 4 cars, 2 drivers on policy (for now, daughter just got her permit) (also have an 03 boxster s which is $763/year on same policy).
This is just one more thread that makes me cringe because I live in Canuckistan. Even with a max discount I'm paying way way more than any of you lucky fellas. Our insurance rates suck up here! 😭
I just got my bill from Haggerty.
996 - $25K agreed upon value, full coverage
951 - $15K agreed upon value, full coverage
No driving limitations.
$847/year for both cars.
Do both cars have to be in a locked garage? My problem is I have 2 996's and 1 986, and only a 1 car garage, so 2 have to sit covered outside. But with a savings in insurance, I may can pay payments on a detached garage??/ Hmmmm....
I am not 100% certain, but I believe the answer is no. I know for Grundy insurance is has to be in a locked garage. And you have to apply via a mail in form and include a check. LOL.
I pay about $250 a month but I have a discount. It seems like a lot of people are actually overpaying for their insurance because they trust their provider too much and never ask about the potential benefits or more information about their plan or what type of discounts they might get, besides the obvious ones. I mean if you just do a little research you will be able to know that you can get a really good deal. I've found this awesome article about a thing called double discount ( check it here:
https://www.cheapautoinsurance.com/a...t-double-check
) that helped me get a fairly small monthly payment. I feel like it's going to be beneficial to a lot of people
I'd like to resurect this Thread and compare. I have a perfect driving record, excellent credit, primarily telework with a different car and I'm still worried that I'm paying too much.
Your best bet if you are worried about overpaying is to go talk to some folks at a local car meet preferably PCA, since they are more likely to have a comparable car. Insurance rates vary greatly from state to state and even city to city. Also, you can just get quotes from all of the major players. It is pretty easy to do online these days.
I live in Norway, but interesting to see insurance being quite compatible. I pay $1500/year for full coverage for my 98 996, 8000 km/5000 miles limit. I pay a bit extra to have the insurance covering catastrophic failure of engine and drivetrain too.
Wow - you can get catastrophic engine failure coverage? Nice. I pay $700/year to Hagerty for my 2000 C2 with an agreed value of $25K. I put 1K miles or less on per year.
Using Porsche Insurance. I pay approx $45 a month for $45k replacement value on my 02 w/ 59k miles. Put on about 2k miles a year. It's a good deal if you are in IL or GA. Don't know the other states that they are in. The replacement value is a key component if you have a number of enhancements. Probably will take replacement value up a bit next year depending on where prices go.
FWIW, keep in the back of your mind that this insurance is for the street only. If i do a track day or weekend, i get the PCA track insurance thru their insurance partner that is available on the ClubRegistration website. Adds to the cost of the track day, but i have seen enough guys have some bad luck on the track and the insurance is worth it. If you do alot of track days a year, you can buy discounted packages.
Yes, available for cars under 90,000 miles. Costs like $200 per year. If that is not a thing in the US, I would guess it is because my domestic market is small? Relative few 996s so relative few IMS and bore scoring problems etc. I don't know, only guessing.
That is incredible !! You are so lucky !! If that were available in USA I would suggest everyone get it...
I get calls all the time from "extended warranty companies" trying to sell me coverage all the time, but when I tell them I want it for 2 1999 996 and 1 2002 986 they tell me not available...lol
I don't think I could get an extended warranty on a newer, used car even if I wanted to. I have never heard of a company in Norway offering it. I first heard of that concept in a Doug Demuro Youtube video and his Landrover or whatever it was and I was surprised it was a thing
I'm pricing this out right now for my 996 in CA. Hagerty told me that they limit mileage to 5K a year which doesn't work for me. Porsche's online quoting has been ~$800 - $1,000/ year depending on coverage. Porsche has a $.03 - $.04 per mile charge. AAA and my current company don't offer agreed value. The KBB value on my 996 is $21 - $23K which wouldn't cover replacement cost.
I may go with the Porsche insurance since I've heard good things.
My 99 C4 and 02 Boxster S are insured with Porsche insurance . I pay $375.00 every 6 months . Agreed value of 28k and 25k . Both have 1500 mile 6 month limits , go over that you pay extra . This is my first go around with this insurance so I picked 1500 six month miles . I may adjust in the future .
Just double checked my Hagerty policy. $1554/year to cover 03 4s, $48k agreed value and my 09 4s, $70k agreed value. No limits on driving mileage on either and they both get driven a lot. For NJ I consider this dirt cheap.
112.00 per/ 6 months
Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability$25,000 each person,$50,000 each accident,$25,000 each accident$97.00
Uninsured Motorist Bodily InjuryAdded on - $25,000 each person,$50,000 each accident$8.00
Uninsured Motorist Property DamageAdded on - $25,000 each accident,$250 deductible$7.00
That's just the mandatory minimum coverage, which is why it is cheap. Won't pay you anything to repair or replace your car. So if you're in an accident and you have any partial responsibility, the other guy will get paid, but you won't get anything.
Edit: I'm sure you already knew that. I guess I just wanted to clarify in case someone was confused by the price.
And through what company??
Exactly. I havent been in an at fault accident in 25ish years and only drive between 4-5k per year on date nights and such. Hell, its never even been in the rain lol. This is a toy car and I can afford to fix it or replace it on my own if something were to happen if I was at fault. For me, extra insurance is a waste of money.
Over the past 20 years I have put to much time, parts and money into the car not to have it insured for a replacement value. I learned my lesson years ago with my 2003 Audi S8. It protected my daughter in an accident perfectly, but the insurance company totaled it. Problem was it didn't have a stated replacement value. Lesson learned.
Well I never thought about agree-value - and yeh, the KBB on my soon to arrive 1999 with 99k is 10k less than I paid. I did an online quote with USAA and the increase was only $45/month but I'm going to assume that's not right now. Looks like they do partner with American Collectors Insurance to offer classic car insurance, has anyone used them before? I just did Porsche insurance quote - declared value of 25k, 100/300 limits for all, no rental, 500 deductible, and it came to $85/month. 2000/year driving. 4000 miles a year would be $96. That doesn't seem so bad...?
Hagerty seems to be about the same, but website not working right to adjust liability coverages.
I been insured by Usaa for most of my life. Driving for almost 39 years. I have high coverage 500,000 . Im currently paying about $60 a month for the early 99 and almost $90 a month for the turbo. Regarding agreed value and Usaa, I had two total claims in my life with them, on both I disputed their settlement values and got great results, keep good records receipts.
Here's what I'll be paying for Porsche insurance $30K agreed value in southern California. $400/year + 3.6 cents per mile. So if I drive it 8,000 miles in a year it would be $843.
Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability $100,000 each person,$300,000 each accident,$100,000 each accident
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist $100,000 each person,$300,000 each accident
Comprehensive $2,500 deductible
Collision $2,500 deductible
$85/mo
there are lots of ways I could get financially screwed owning this car. if it's something that's my fault I will feel lucky. That Porsche insurance looks like a good deal I might have to check that out.
Honestly I havent thought about it that much, this is the same ins I had on my 996 n/a which was worth about 25k. I think I shall bump it up to at least 50k. Good eyes and thanks for the heads up. Ive over looked it for a few years.
^^ Cool, definitely bump up your uninsured coverage.
It probably wont cost that much more to take it to 75/100K to be safe.
A friends car was totaled by a red light running uninsured drunk.
Big surprise that Mr. DUI had no assets and skipped his court dates.
Hagerty agreed value $40,000, deducible $1,000. Premium $537 per year ($45.75 per month).
These are my coverages. Not sure what the Spare Parts and Earthquake stuff is.
Bump of old thread, but maybe it's time to revisit insurance prices. I just received my renewal from Liberty Mutual, and the insurance rate for a 2018 Macan and 2000 996 went up 33% from last year, rate is now $5000. Three drivers, no accidents or anything else, was $2722 last year. Is anyone else seeing a huge bump in their annual renewal?
I've been with Liberty Mutual for 30 years, but I think I need to change, they keep bumping it up. When I started this thread, they had been bumping me up for years without me noticing, and were triple a Geico quote I got. Then they matched the Geico quote by creating a new policy. Seems like systematic bumping with Liberty.
Would love to hear what other people have seen in increases this year (in general, and particularly with Liberty Mutual), and what insurance companies you are happy with. I can't use specialty insurance for the 996, and that would help the Macan insurance rate anyway.
Just went to Hagerty from Porsche Insurance which was discontinued last month in IL. Replacement value of $50k. Can't remember the details but I have a low deductible and checked the expensive boxes. It's a little over 1200 a year. Very good deal.
Be careful on cancelling. Some insurance companies are now not taking new customers so your choices may be very limited. I too have Liberty mutual. Twenty plus years for home insurance, full max coverage on 3 cars (2003 Porsche, 2013 Honda Ridgeline, 2019 Tesla Model 3) with $500 deductable, along with a $3,000,000 umbrella policy. Costs $5500/year.
Mistyped amount per year.
Is $3500 a year for all of that???? (home, umbrella, 3 cars)
Mine is $5k for only 2 cars (1 24-year-old driver, but he's been on the policy for a few years so that doesn't explain the 33% increase this year)
I guess I could go either way -- bundle home and auto and add umbrella, or go to somebody else with online quotes.
Does Porsche Insurance also cover non-Porsche? I happen to be covering two Porsches now with Liberty, but probably will have a non-Porsche in the next couple years.
I can't do any type of collector insurance on the Macan and 996, have separate collector's insurance on another car though.
I just did an online quote for 2 cars, 3 drivers + home with Amica, and the total is $5600 a year. Currently I'm paying $9300 a year ($5k Liberty Mutual cars + $4300 Home with a different insurance company). The Amica quote is with significantly higher home value than existing home insurance (which still had home value from very long time age when we bought the house).
I've been searching Rennlist of Amica, seems like it is quite good insurance, so I may just go that route. I probably will add umbrella (which I've never had), but Amica won't include that in online quote.
I hear Amica is very highly rated. I went with Porsche Insurance and the price has been pretty stable. I paid $345 for the last 6 months so $690/year. That includes 3.6 cents per mile. IIRC Hagerty wanted you to have under 5K miles per year. This is in SoCal.
Due to a change in perceived fire danger my property insurance just went up 780%.
Maybe I'll live in a Porche down by the river.
My rule is to avoid insurance companies that advertise. The more they advertise the harder I avoid them.
The waitress, the lizard, the ostrich, the professor, all on the avoid list.
Because insurance is state specific you may not be able to do that - here in MA it's trivially easy.
I have 2 cars with Geico and had 3 with Hagerty but now just two. When I sold the e30 last month, I went to Hagerty's website and canceled the coverage and waited for my partial refund since I was paid through the end of the year. A couple of weeks later sure enough, there's a letter from Hagerty except it contained a BILL for $47.00. That's right, they raised my premium for removing a car that had an agreed value of $15,000. I called them, and it was "blah, blah, multi-car discount, Blah, blah. Apparently two cars isn't 'multi' enough even though I can only drive one at a time. I broke my own rule and called them when I was fuming and ended up getting a refund for $98.00. I've been with them for 20 years but I'll definitely be shopping around before I renew again.
I've seen stuff on the local news about this. Crazy!
I recently changed my homeowner's policy from Farmers to Geico and aside from the usual mundane questions about the house, they also wanted to know how far away the closest fire hydrant is and how far the closest fire station is.
Maybe these are standard questions now but I don't remember seeing them before.
I would never do business with Liberty Mutual because they have the most annoying ads in the history of advertising. It takes all of my willpower to not heave a brick at the TV when one of their ads comes on.
I started using American Collectors Insurance when I switched the house and other car to USAA. A-rated company.
Just paid the annual premium of $561.82 for an agreed amount policy for $30,000.
ACI recently quoted me $3k for an agreed value of $115k on my Spyder. Im currently paying around $1500/year for that same agreed value with Porsche, with no mileage restrictions. TIFWIW.
Some of you guys are paying a scary amount. Progressive charges me around $240/year IIRC, it doesn't commute to work and I don't take it anywhere I'd be likely to be at fault. The premium is basically a legality cover and in a crash I either fix the car myself or the other party's insurance is paying for it.
Have you checked to see what KBB values your car at? Because thats the number that Progressive and/or the other at-fault partys insurance will use. And they wont pay for a Porsche certified shop either. Youll get Billy Bobs Bondo Blast or the equivalent of what they charge.
#beentheredonethat
The question is...how much more do you pay annually for what the difference is? Don't know your numbers...but, ex., if you;re paying $500 more per year for $5000 more coverage, you might be making a mistake. Increasingly, despite 996's increasing values, the value is hardly more than checkbook money, yah?
I pay $222/6 mos. for 3000 mile limit on an '01 996. Old, rural.
If you tally up the enhancements you made to your car such as suspension, exhaust, aero, brake kit, seats, wheels, IMSB, UAOS, sump, etc, and then look at the KBB, you will quickly realize why agreed value is so attractive.
Some auto insurers like Liberty have it. Most don't. You will take a bath in an accident without it. This is what makes Hagerty or Porsche Insurance if you can get it in your state so attractive.
I insure mine for $50k. Will probably take it up a bit shortly to maybe $60k. Why, because that is what it will cost me to buy another 996 with a good engine and then set it up just like the one I have.
I have an Agreed Value on the car of $34k, which is double the top value of KBBs joke numbers. I have a $5k deductible on the 996 so Im essentially getting a $29k final value for a total loss event, which is still $12k higher than KBB (and therefore any non-Agreed Value insurer).
My 6 month base premium with Porsche is $144 and my per mile premium is $0.033. I drive her about 2000 miles every 6 months so my cumulative 6 month payment is about $210. This gets me full 250/500/100 coverage to comply with my umbrella policy, Added On type of UM/UIM coverage, guaranteed Porsche-certified repair shop, no mileage limits, and the Agreed Value.
YMMV
KBB carries little value, in the past I've always shown the adjuster what comparable options exist on the market and gotten fair value when I needed it. If the damage is reasonable it'll be much less than that, so I'll take the money, fix it myself and profit. If it's enough to total the car we either do the aforementioned, or buy it back and part it out. I've unfortunately gotten a "free" car this way just a few years back, the savings on the premium was simply cherry on top.
If I had to park the car outside I'd be more careful, for sure. But the 996 mostly lives in my garage where my home insurance policy covers vehicle loss in case of fire/earthquake/etc.
