Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The main reason that we kept this as quiet as we did and had to play the secrecy game was due to the patent process of the technology and system for other automotive and industrial applications.
Leading evidence: 'patent process of the technology and system' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'patent process of the technology and system' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill now, shipping juat' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The IMS bearing retrofit is not a cure for IMSB failure, it is simply a low cost way of replacing your inadequately lubricated bearing.

Remember, engines replaced after 2005 may not be candidates for the LN Eng retrofit.

Suggestion
If someone with a late IMS bearing (non-retrofittable) has the IMS Guardian installed and receives and IMS Alert with no collateral damages the cost of us removing the engine, disassembling it and changing the IMS bearing will be less than 8K.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thought I'd start a new thread on the article. If you have not read the latest issue, you should.
The piece did a very good job of expaining the technology behind the device - not too technical that I got lost and not to shallow that it sounded flaky. A very strong endorsement of the product - and of the absolute need for anyone with an M96 motor to address the potential problems instead of relying purely on hope.
I already have the LN upgraded bearing, and it took a lot of worry off the table. But I'm going to rethink whether I need the Guardian. Might be a good idea on top of the new bearing.
We thought the writers did an excellent job of explainibg the technology.
Glad you appreciate the technology:-)
Remember that the Guardian can monitor much more than the IMS...
Since you have a replaceable IMSB, I think you will want to install the Guardian. The IMS bearing retrofit is not a cure for IMSB failure, it is simply a low cost way of replacing your inadequately lubricated bearing. When your replacement bearing begins to fail you will want to be warned before it fails catastrophically so you can repeat the low cost retrofit process--rather than paying for a full tear down. If you have a replacement M96 with 22mm IMS nut the Guardian has reduced value as replacing the failing bearing will require engine R&R and full tear down as if you had suffered a major failure. Remember, engines replaced after 2005 may not be candidates for the LN Eng retrofit.
Your site mentions you have the M97 IMS bearing available. That's great! Does it work for the M96 with the 22mm IMS nut?
If so, what is the average time to R&R + split the case to replace this bearing? Thanks.
I believe the IMS Guardian is going to be replicated by other engine manufacturers( understanding that the technology exists, just in different applications)
Never fear.. The main reason that we kept this as quiet as we did and had to play the secrecy game was due to the patent process of the technology and system for other automotive and industrial applications. This is one reason that it has taken me 3 years to get the system to market.
Systems based from this technology for other vehicles already.. Those tests are being carried out now. The difference in this IMS Guardian system and the universal system that we have is the dash interface and lack of the "black box" along with no audible alarm. The biggest difference is the magnet strength and position with the MCD that we developed for the IMS bearing in the M96 engine specifically. This sensor is only effective in the M96 engine.
If someone with a late IMS bearing (non-retrofittable) has the IMS Guardian installed and receives and IMS Alert with no collateral damages the cost of us removing the engine, disassembling it and changing the IMS bearing will be less than 8K.
I am all for it Jake; you have done a great job in the Porsche community! As long as my M96 can be protected , then it's a long term thing, IMS G is an excellent product. Great advert on your site!
Thanks!! We currently have enough switches and materials to supply 35 more orders before the 6-12 week backlogs will begin. I opened ordering back up on the site last night, so if you want one sooner rather than later (before we start advertising it!) I'd make the commitment very soon. We sold 21 units last night alone!
The first pre orders are being filled now, shipping juat after the first of October.
ANYTHING is cheaper than a total failure. Even another Porsche in most cases.
