Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'aos is giving' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'aos is giving' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check dirt / blockage between radiators, throttle body' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. If you do get a clutch replacement, I highly recommend spending the extra $500 on the IMS bearing upgrade kit.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Brief introduction. Tomorrow I'll pick up my 996 C2. I trade in my good old 968 after some years of fun. The years with the 968 I used to figur out what to get next ....an 964/993 or newer, the 996. The perfection in handling, drivebility, options got the overhand.
Pics I'll post later!
Danny, Netherlands.
loud? maybe it has by-pass pipes? easy to check, look at them... if they come from the cat and turn out the back without going into the fender wells.....
in that case:
edit: we know how to make that new car sound even better
They still come from the fender wells. There is an company closeby (belgium) who nearly empty out the mufflers. That might be done. Coming weekend I have an close inspection and also make proper pictures.
Funny how many of us came from 968s... Considering how few of them exist. Great cars, just getting old and expensive to run. I've been happily surprised at how much less money I spend keeping the 996 running than I did the 968.
Actually, in terms of maintenance the 968 didn't cost me much at all. With now only 100600km on the counter the cams were also still in good health so no high cost expected there.
I wanted an upgraded drivers experience which the aircooled cars don't offer compared with the 968. That could also be an good reason why quite an number of 968 drivers find there way to an 996....you almost must skip two generations of 911 before getting on par.
Anyway, I'll pick up the car in 30 minutes or so. To bad its raining ..there goes the dealers wax job.
I made that same decision when going from my 944 S2 Cab to my 996. It was always reliable but I just spent so much time and effort maintaining it since it was getting older.
I still do preventative maintenance on my 996 but it's not quite as frequent.
To the OP, congrats on the new car - you'll love the change!
Picked up the car today. Wow! The 996 feels so much more planted, even with the winter tires mounted. Been cleaning the car, dashboard ....aah wanna sleep next to it
Cloudy weather prevents pics. One taken earlier this week. Colour is Voilet metallic.
I love those deep purple colors. Some folks don't. But I do.
I often thought about searching for one that color, add a big rear spoiler, and get a custom registration tag that says: MO-B GRAP (Moby Grape). There was a rock band in the 1960's with that name, but it is also aliterative in reference to Mody Dick and the whale tail on the back. Too esoteric? LOL!
Welcome to Rennlist, and the 996 Forum.
Beautiful car!
Have today done about 150km mostly highway. Washed and waxed it first of course! Really amazed at the gap between the 996 and 968. The latter one aged nicely, no bad words, but boy am I happy with my choice.
Number of things to do....rims have some curb damage. The outer ring of the "GT3" wheels looks its just polished (with maybe protective transparent paint?). Is that assumption correct? Other job is getting the leather in good shape. Its dry here and there.
Engine wise, new sparks, check dirt / blockage between radiators, throttle body cleaning etc. Contemplating on new clutch, IMS bearing and RMS seal. Just for peace of mind.
Dude66 - as a 968 Cab and 996 C4 owner I was sure you would enjoy the new ride. First squeeze of the peddle is all you need and a run to red line will seal the deal. I still enjoy a drive in (now my wifes) the 968 but it is an easy choice for me to pick the C4 when I drive. Maybe different in the summer & sunshine, but everyday is a good day in the C4. Enjoy...
Oh wow you got 220? So it must be a '99 then correct?
If you do get a clutch replacement, I highly recommend spending the extra $500 on the IMS bearing upgrade kit.
I came from a 944 and while I really loved the 944, the reliability and performance of the 996 are great. I do miss the hatch and the seats of the 944 though! It's okay I stumbled across a euro gt3 seat (:
Yep, it is an '99!
The clutch and IMS is high on the action list. First solve the faint smell and loss of coolant. I suspect the aos is giving. No droplets under the car, just the smell and adding almost 1 1/2 liters of coolant (in approx. 600km). Besides that, I see an fare amount of oil residue at the inlet rubbers just before the manifold. Should be fixed under buyers warranty.
