Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all! So far I've enjoyed my first two weeks with the 02 C4S but I have had to fix a few little things and there is one last thing I need to figure out. Yesterday I decided to see what the car was like with the PSM turned off. I pushed the button and nothing happened. I then held the button for a few seconds and nothing happened. I thought there was supposed to be a light or something when it was off? The light on the switch does not come on either but I don't know if it is supposed to. Basically the car never says the PSM is on or off and the switch doesn't seem to do anything at all. Also when I shut the car off for a split second on the dash it says "PSM failure drive to workshop" It flashes on the screen for maybe half a second and that is it. ABS works as I already had to test that out the other day thanks to a Coyote crossing the road. And overall the car seems to handle fine and I havn't gotten the tires to break free at all so I'm guessing PSM is doing something. Keep in mind this car has the VF-Engineering supercharger kit on it so I don't know if PSM was disabled somehow when that was done. Thanks for any help!

POST 2Original post

On mine, if I press the PSM switch, the light in the switch and the light in the dash both light up.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok mine does neither so where should I start looking? Fuses?

POST 5Original post

Drive it on a slippery surface. Try it on and off. You should notice the difference. No difference = problem.

What's a slippery surface? We don't get those fun things here in the desert.

POST 7Original post

you should get it scanned.... there should be an error code at least?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 8306279

Unless it won't show up on a normal OBDII scanner then there is nothing at all as I have put my car on my OBDII scanner at least 20 times already.

POST 9Original post

You have sand right? Find a place with some sand on the road and lay in the pedal. When my PSM goes on it feels like it cuts power and bogs down until you are on solid ground. This only happens during DE's for me. Crazy driving is for the track. Did I do good Ed?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok I will see if I can find a sandy road but it still raises the question of why when I push the PSM off button nothing happens at all? No light on dash or switch.

POST 11Original post

Good point. If the lite doesn't come on then I think its time to take to a mechanic. Like you say....the supercharger might have something to do with it.

POST 12Original post

PSM alwayse gets in the way when you drive flat out. ....... :-)

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's the only way I drive....Flatout

POST 15Original post

I have yet to make my PSM indicator light up, but couldn't you just pop the clutch in a parking lot and see if it does a donut?

POST 16Original post

I don't think a standard OBD reader is going to show a PSM fault. The default on the PSM is on, the button turn it off and both the switch light and the light on the dash come on. It could be a bad switch. loose wire, etc. etc.

POST 17Original post

Checking fuses is the easiest thing you could do. I would start there.

POST 18Original post

Push the other side of the oval button. Maybe you are pushing the wrong side of the button? Just a guess. Light will glow and PSM OFF orange light on the dash will also be glowing. With PSM off you should easily be able to break the rear end free and do a donut on an icy or wet surface. With PSM on, you'll feel it. PSM takes some of the fun out of driving, but is very very good for safety. I leave it on unless I want to snow drift, or autocross, or slide a corner for fun.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've tried both sides of the switch. And I wasn't aware I could do donuts in a C4s

POST 20Original post

one of the few awd that can do donuts because of the viscous coupling. [vid]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gh38VcqOsU[/vid]

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I checked the fuses and all were good. I removed the switch and it appears to be working with a multimeter connected but I'm not sure which connections are supposed to get voltage on them. Next time I'm at the dealership I'll have them check it out.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok so PSM works. It actually rained for once today and I went out and got on it and the dash light started flashing. Just can't turn it off I guess.
