after tons of reading, everyone agree that 67mm offset in the back is what you need to run 11" wheels.

You can definitely run a 11.5" wide with 62 mm offset or 11" with 55 mm in back.

Most will say that you can't run 12's on a NB, but here's proof that it is possible:

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So your saying that a narrow body early 996 non GT3 came with a 8.5 in front wheel? I'm only interested in narrow body non GT3's '99 - '01. Can you tell me what wheel that was?
Thanks for the help!
IIRC widest -'00 OEM front wheel is 7,5"et50. OTH '02- uses 8"et50 and et52, bolt-on to -'00 because of the same wheel carrier. GT3 -'02 has 8"et52, '04- that aforementioned 8,5"et40. Again -'02 GT3 has 5mm spacer at front.
Someone with the PET at hand should check this. ...OK, I did this myself and edited some numbers..
I suspect he is running in a spec class (probably 996 spec) and he needs to know so he can pick the widest wheels he can run and remain within the spec.
I believe the largest front wheel that could be ordered from the factory was 8 x 18 ET 50
I misunderstood the intent of your question then, I thought you meant the widest porsche made wheel that would fit a (optional or otherwise?), I didn't realize you meant ordered on the car, then you have to take USA availability by model year into account.
Remember that any wheel could have been ordered with any car as an option, while I don't believe there was GT3 wheel in the US until 2004, you could order the turbo twist hollows which were available in 8.5J (although then you're talking about 01 only in your overlap). So, without knowing the reason behind the question, I think the answer is that there wasn't any one wheel that shipped with those cars, but if USA 8J max 99-00, 8.5J max 01. So what's the intent? Are you trying to determine if your wheels are aftermarket?
Sorry Guys,
I posted a quick question the other night but I did not include my intent. I thought the answer would be more cut and dry but... I'm buying my next set of wheels and I want to know how wide I can go in the front, for a PCA "H" class car. I can go one inch wider that any stock wheel for my car. My car is a 2001 C2. I did my first club race at Summit Point and I got a gift certificate for a set of Forgeline wheels. Know I have to decide what I want and the sizes. I'm hoping I can use a 9" wide front. I will confirm with Donna Amico (Tech & Rules) before I purchase them.
unless someone can find any documentation to the contrary, I could only find 7.5" up front for '99-'01 (Sport Classic). I'd love some documentation for an 8" front wheel.
If anyone has it, please post a link.
Ed -- more like 70 mm rear offset with an 11" rear, that's what I'm running. I think the front is closer to 50 mm but I'd have to double check that. With the rims I have I can run 265 fronts and 315 rears. If you're running Hoosiers I think 255 fronts will work nicely.
The earliest 996 brochures cite standard wheels as 7Jx17 front and 9Jx17 as rear, but also cite as optional a 7.5Jx18 front and 10Jx18 rear (225/40ZR18, 265/35ZR18).
was it possible to order a 996 with GT3 wheels from the factory for either the Mk1 or Mk2 996? It matters for those that want to pursue SCCA stock autocrossing. thanks!
35mm and 55mm offset ? is that possible ? can you double check ?
after tons of reading, everyone agree that 67mm offset in the back is what you need to run 11" wheels. Also I haven't seen anyone saying they could run 35mm in the front..
Is this what you had on the picture ?
BTW, what were those wheels ? I love them
no, 35mm is for a 7.5"
Thats what Im running 7.5" et50 with 15mm spacers = 35mm
Im putting on 9" et52 sport design in the front... will see how this one goes.
The wheels in the other picture were made by ATS for 9ff and the fronts were actually 36 mm, 18 x 9. If you think that's aggressive, check-out Rad's former car's front wheel sizes (19 x 10, 42 mm)!

jmla, I see the gt3 wheels in your avatar are really out as well, are you running spacers in there
?
I have been passing on couple nice kinesis with following sizes:
Front: 18x8.5
Offset +40mm
Rear: 18x11
Offset +50mm
That would mean those sizes are ok for th narrow body then ?
What did Rad's run in the back ? those wheels are sick on the 996.
Not currently, but I was thinking of adding 7 mm spacers all the way around. Regarding the Kinesis, the fronts will work, but I'm not sure about the rears. You can definitely run a 11.5" wide with 62 mm offset or 11" with 55 mm in back. Rad's rears were 11.5", 67 mm. Most will say that you can't run 12's on a NB, but here's proof that it is possible:
How much do the 996 GT3 wheels weigh? I assume these are the Mk2 996 wheels that are 18x8.5 and 18x11. If anyone can verify that these could be ordered from the factory on a non GT3 996, then I would be interested in buying. Thanks!
the cup cars use 9j and 11j x 18 and their offsets are 46.5 and 59 respectively.
working in the assumption that porsche motorsport know what they are doing with their race cars id suggest sticking close to that offset with wheels matching that width.
I'm in late on this one, but it would have been funny if one of the first couple posts on this thread had been a photoshopped 996 on a monster truck chassis. He asked how biig could you go? LOL
