Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I checked my cam angles and they seem to be still good.
Leading evidence: 'Check cam angles and they seem' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cam angles and they seem' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

At this point im thinking to just replace the actuator and solenoid since i cant find anything else to really try.

change the oil, replace solenoid seal and re-seat the connector on bank 2, then drive it hard.

I'll probably take your advice anyway and replace those seals when i get a chance, and do the pads.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
Hit a big bump and right after i got a P1539 code. Not sure its realted but it was a big bump.
Reaeated the DME and went away for a couple drives but then came back.
Crank deviation sits at -3 on both banks.
When i activate the variocam through durametric the car idles poorly on both banks which from what i understand is what it should do?
Car seems to run normal, other than rev limiting at 6k i think from the cel. After reseating the DME it would go past 6k again so im guessing thats some kind of protection mode.
At this point im thinking to just replace the actuator and solenoid since i cant find anything else to really try.
Also having a hard time finding the actuator to buy online for a 3.4 996.1 do i need to go to porsche for that?
Thanks
Tyler
I am also hearing a ticking noise on the right bank, not like an lifter tick something else so maybe that is the actuator.
I guess just replacement is the only thing I can think of, but I cannot find the parts. If anyone has somewhere that sells 996.1 variocam actuators please let me know.
Thanks
You can buy that only from Porsche dealer. Be sure it is for the bank that you are working on, they are different for each bank. It will be expensive. The actuator has a solenoid included, or you can buy the solenoid alone. Did you say that you can actuate the variocam with a scanner on each bank?
That code can also be set if the actuators are slow to come back to rest after being actuated...
I would suggest that you "LOG" the camshaft angle while driving it at various RPM's, then come back and view the Log in Durametric to see if both banks advance/retard at the same time or one of them is slow to react...
Also if the actuators are slow to react, it is usually an o-ring inside that has failed...( I have a couple set of O-ring kits I bought for my cars that I will one day need) ...
If you are able to R&R the actuators, you should also be able to install the o-ring kits. The New actuators are about $1.5k each...
Lee Jenkins sat down and did what many of us have been wanting for decades. He measured all the o-rings and found sources for them...A couple were very hard to source, they are square cut Viton O-rings...But he found them and put them in a kit to rebuild both actuators..
Contact Hartech Parts Dept. for the O-ring kits...A friend of mine was having this fault code and we got a set for his car and I bought 2 sets for my cars to keep on the shelf...
Thanks for all the help here. I changed my oil even though it was only like 1k miles old, it was Royal Purple one I have never used before. I checked my cam angles and they seem to be still good. Went back to Mobile 1 oil, and the light has not come back on. Maybe that oil doesn't work well with the actuators or I just happened to get something unstuck by changing it. I don't know but so far it hasn't came back and its been a decent amount of driving.
I'll probably take your advice anyway and replace those seals when i get a chance, and do the pads. Doing the IMS with my clutch soon so makes sense to do that stuff too since they seem to be the common issues.
Thanks!
