Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

32 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, Engine Start button for 996/986 http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...rt-button.html Let me know what you think.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I also wired up a power outlet light trim to give it a oem look. You still have to put key in and turn to deactivate steering lock/immobilizer. This is specifically for the 996/986, but Im working on the 997 as well.

POST 3Original post

Pretty cool, well done. People think push button start is new, but early '50s Bugs had a push button start, too!

POST 4Original post

The Austin-Healey also had push button ingition in the 50's.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 6373237

Cool, they probably had the same button, ha. Love the early Austin Healeys too, cool.

POST 7Original post

Hmm anyone doing kits and selling them, Im willing to buy =)

POST 8Original post

Noby, In the OP's post on 6speedonline , he said he was going to make a few extra kits. Drop him a PM for more info.

POST 9Original post

my motorcycle was a push button start.... ( I just wanted to feel like I "fit in" ) - (for once )

POST 10Original post

If all you have to do it get in the car and push the button like many modern cars have with the smart key fobs than it's great! otherwise, I 'm fine with starting my 911 the old fashioned way with my left hand

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 6373640

Dream on!!! We love ya' any way!

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 6373652

Yeah, after I got my 996, it took me a while to get used to inserting the key on the left side, but after a while I realized that I had become amphibious and could use either hand, as needed, to start cars.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 6373679

amphibious? , you can start your car underwater?? heh! cool!

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 6373679

Between my Porsches (Left hand ignition) Saab (Center console) and "Normal" cars I dont know where the hell to put a key anymore!

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 6373682

Yeah, 'Gant taught me that trick! Yeah, I know the word is ambidextrous, but amphibious was more fun!

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 6373707

I know that you knew..... but I could not let it pass.. you know?

POST 19Original post

The button's not even on the left side. Blasphemy!!

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6374808

If you want the button on left side, you need to drill a hole in your dash, and I don't thinks you wanna do this! Clutch switch is also bypassed!

POST 21Original post

Good ole' Charles Shackleford made the "amphibious" phrase famous. Unfortunately that's one of the more memorable moments from our local NC State graduate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Shackleford Nice mod by the way, tastefully done.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 6375117

Loved that line back in the day. I use amphibious as often as possible. That and bulimia, to reference someone who can read minds.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 6373652

+1 He turned a 2 step process into a 3 step process. I don't really see the improvement. 1) Insert Key 2) Turn key 3) Push button ???? Why?

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 6375117

And his other endeavours made him ambitious and avaricious. I'm still ambivalent about the start button.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6378648

Actually It was 3 steps... 1) insert key 2) press clutch 3) turn key and It is 2-3 steps now!! 1) Insert key 2) turn key to start or press button! If you look at my post on 6speed, you'll see that I did this mod the cover the wiper switch hole after I installed the rain sensor. I think its better to put a start button, than another power outlet (useless since I don't smoke or plug anything there) or just a ugly cap.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 6380124

Personally, I would never start a manual car without pushing in the clutch. Sorry, this mod seems pointless to me but what matters is that you like it.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Alot of European car don't have clutch switch. Why would you want to start the car with clutch, unless its on a gear, its an extra step!

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Whats the whole idea of having a clutch switch anyway??

POST 29Original post

I think it looks pretty spiffy!! And a rain sensor sounds also pretty good...problem is when it rains where I live SOCAL I don't drive the P-car. love the push button idea... think that I am too lazy to install.

POST 30Original post

Hell I had a push-to-start car back in high school. Always had trouble finding someone to give me push tho'.
