I've heard of replacing the sunroof with a carbon fiber insert for weight reduction, then I guess you could return the sunroof when selling?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not counting the GT3, has anyone ever seen a 996 w/o a sunroof?? C.

POST 2Original post

Never a NA 996. I have seen the 996 Turbo without a sunroof. On the options list, there is no option for a sun roof delete, while there is one for the turbo.

POST 3Original post

Yes, the car I initially ordered was sunroof delete, '03 C2. I changed my mind when it came in and bought a C4S instead. It's out there someplace.

POST 4Original post

I've seen quite a few N/A 996s w/sunroof delete. Spider's car:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmm...I'd love to find one. If they are in fact out there. C.

POST 7Original post

I have only heard of them. The first one I ever saw was the picture of Spider's car above...I think it kind of looks kool.

POST 8Original post

I've got a '78 SC with no sunroof in case you're having withdrawls!!!!

POST 9Original post

Chad - I don't blame you! I am surprised you lasted this long on the DARK SIDE! Just the fact that you are inquiring about a sunroof delete tells me yoooooour baaaaaack!!!!

POST 10Original post

Chad, dude, seriously. Get help. I mean, we're all sick here, but I think your just that LITTLE bit sicker.

POST 11Original post

Yea, as others have said they do exist, I tried to locate one for a customer once......called at least 200 porsche dealers on top of searching the net and looking into wholesale connections I have.. ....I found 0 Jeremy

POST 12Original post

I'm now wishing I had a sunroof delete, though I'm not changing cars. I wonder what the difficulty is in selling one later, even thouugh you're looking for one. I've heard of replacing the sunroof with a carbon fiber insert for weight reduction, then I guess you could return the sunroof when selling?

POST 14Original post

Mine has sunroof delete! (1999 C2 silver/blk)

POST 15Original post

Ive seen it on a 996 before. I think it was a 2001' model. I was looking for one before I bought mine, its rare but out there.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

SRL: Your a riot. Yeah...they are certainly tough to find. I didn't even try when I was looking for mine originally. Chad

POST 17Original post

Chad, You should get a Gurney bubble..They did one for ol' Dan on the new GT40...

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wasn't ol' Dan only 6'4". yes...I said only. Chad

POST 19Original post

I'm not sure, but I think Kelly Moss Motorsports in Madison Wisconsin [phone removed] could do it. I believe they still make a complete carbon fiber body too.

POST 20Original post

What is the advantage in having the sunroof delete. I would think it would make the car lighter, stiffer, and thus handle better? I rarely use my sunroof.

POST 21Original post

everything you've described PLUS more headroom for the tall guys, especially with helmets. removing weight from high up will do more good than down low. this will effectively lower the center of gravity giving you better handling. not sure how much extra weight is up there though, 20lbs?
