Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have not tested for cam deviation (I only have the Foxwell and not sure if I can test with that tool), but I do have a decent amount of chain rattle when starting the car for the first time in a day.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am a new 996 owner and have been doing a lot of reading on this site. During an oil change in preparation for an IMS bearing replacement I discovered a lot of little debris in the pleats of the oil filter. No metal at all, but until I did an extensive search I did not know what this debris was. I now know that it is most certainly cam chain guide wear pieces. I am crestfallen at what is to come. I am determined to do these repairs myself as I have a lift, a nice shop and time. My concern is that these particles are of a light green color and my understanding is that the guides are brown. I have not tested for cam deviation (I only have the Foxwell and not sure if I can test with that tool), but I do have a decent amount of chain rattle when starting the car for the first time in a day. The car has 63,000 miles and no major service history. Do these light green pieces indicate something different? Thanks. Paul
