Did you check the end of the driver's door, under the lock mechanism sort of angled down towards the ground (you have to sort of look up from the bottom to see it).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Posted this question on the Boxster board, but still no answer. I have been looking at Boxsters for my wife and would like to know where is the VIN decal, with build date located? On my 993, and other air cooled cars I have had, its typically located in the door jam, right under the striker post. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! PS, do the removable body panels have vin tags for ID anywhere? Many thanks!

POST 2Original post

The information is located on the end of the driver's side door below the latch mechanism. Sticker looks much like the 993 sticker that is located on the door jam.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just got back from a test drive. Lumpy idle a few rattles, but seems like a really fun car. This particular lot had four Boxsters, none of which had these VIN/Build date decals in the door jams..??

POST 4Original post

Check the Boxster side of this board. The sticker moved for model year 1998 up when the car started to be made in Finland. All 1997s were made in Germany and Porsche put the sticker where you could not miss it, because it said Made in Germany. Then they hid it starting for model year 1998.

POST 5Original post

Did you check the end of the driver's door, under the lock mechanism sort of angled down towards the ground (you have to sort of look up from the bottom to see it). It is not on the door jam.

POST 6Original post

Just echoing everyone else that have said so. It's on the door, not door jamb, drivers side door below the latch facing almost 45 degrees toward the ground. You almost have to get upside down to see it. Search the 987 board. The same question, and the same answers, were posted there with astounding results.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all for the replies. Wierd thing is, I had checked under the door, both doors, hood, trunk everywhere, even on three other Boxsters on this particular lot, nothing, nada, zilch.. I passed on the car, even thought it was optioned to the hilt with 31 options. As much as I wanted this car to clean and no stories, no joy. Will keep looking, and will keep looking for that darn vin decal Could anyone tell me if there are supposed to be small decals on each removable body panel that show only VIN? I think I have been looking at a series of 'dogs'. More to follow...
