Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Another day with sun in the forecast and no sun to be seen. How are you holding up, Ed (Ivangene)?! We may be able to finally put the top down in July. I'm glad I didn't bother to take my hardtop off this past weekend! Anyway, before I go and re-polish my scratched plastic rear window on my 2000 C4 Cab, I am checking to see if there is glass replacement window available separately. I have seen the GAHH complete tops, but my top is fine and doesn't need replacing. If the glass is available, I can imagine that it would be a pain to install in place... Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

NOVUS 123 worked great for me on my plastic window and it's much bigger than a glass window.

POST 3Original post

The retrofitted glass window that fits in the early 996's is smaller than the plastic window, so replacing only the window is not an option. You need an entirely new top to go with glass. (you may notice that the plastic window folds when the top is down. Glass does not fold very well ) Also, replacing the window in a top is a pain in the a**. It's possible, though.

That is what I suspected. It seems to me that the best option is to go ahead and re-polish the plastic and leave it at that. Nearly $2000 for a GAHH top, plus installation, is too much for me just to get the glass window. I know, the sun is up there somewhere. I have only had the top down once since I bought the car in early Oct.

POST 6Original post

If your window is not separating from the canvas and is just foggy/scratched you would be nuts to not just polish it. There are several sizes of the Novus and I bought the smallest available (like 3 two ounce bottles). It took 30 minutes to do both sides and it looked great. You will not believe you were contemplating a > $1000 replacement option.

I will take a look at the Novus products. My buddy uses a product on his boats for the Eisenglass that works incredibly well. He claims that it takes out the yellowing caused by the sun and salt water. I'm going to check that one out as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
