Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

According to renntech's price guide this thing is a hair under 400$. That to me seems absolutly rediculous! Does anyone know where i can get an aftermarket one, or a carbon fiber one or can you suggest an alternate source for the piece? My wallet will thank you.

POST 2Original post

I bought mine a year ago OEM for $279 shipped from suncoast or sunset. Hope that helps man.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks man...it still hurts tho. such a tiny piece costs so much. i'll try calling some dismantlers and try getting it off them before i fork over so much for such a small piece. will also keep searching for an aftermarket one

POST 4Original post

Manthey racing as one. Check out their catalog.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

does manthey have a US/canuck dealer? ...or an english website?

POST 6Original post

Omar: Part Number - 996-512-988-00 Price - $278.19 (not including taxes) Yes a lot but well worth it for functionality. You can get it at any Porsche dealer. They are glued on. So I doubt very much you will get one from a dismantler. It is a hard piece of plastic, it does bend a little, but trying to remove one, one tha thas been on the car for nearly 10 years, I bet it will break upon removal. So quit being a penny pincher with your Porsche. Oh, the spoiler that goes under the front bumper (stock spoiler): Part Number - 996-505-986-00-G2X Price - $78.00 (not including shipping or taxes) I got mine from Dart Auto (search online)

POST 7Original post

Sounds about right, not sure if prices have increased but the one I bought included taxes and shipping.

POST 9Original post

But keep it under 150 mph if you do not have both items OK

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 5143539

You are correct, the price for these things is absurd. So I made my own, check it out.

POST 11Original post

Is that price just for that little black lip? WTF???

POST 12Original post

yes, the dealer wants $275 for a piece of plastic I paid $20 for. A little shaping, a little polishing, & some double sided tape, voila.

POST 13Original post

I hope the tape holds up. It looks like you did a good job, ascetically speaking.

POST 16Original post

it adds 5hp.... it is part of the original gt3 and factory aerokit.

POST 17Original post

And massive amounts of additional downforce too...I think it will prevent the IMS problem too!

POST 21Original post

Try this ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Paint...Q5fAccessories

POST 22Original post

Jesus...Maybe these things can make it up to 176...

POST 23Original post

150mph was no problem without it...Car was nice and stable....closed road of course.

POST 24Original post

I think the Gurney looks cool, but until you are driving your Pcar at very high speeds, I can't imagine any aero or downforce benefit especially at highway speeds.

POST 26Original post

My car has something there already that is painted the same color as the car.

POST 27Original post

There is no doubt the Gurney lip adds some downforce and is functional, the question being, How can Porsche charge $275 for a little strip of Plastic. Even the front spoiler lip is only $75. I could not have replicated the front lip, but the gurney flap was easy. While I probably won't notice the performance enhancement, it certainly completes the aerokit look. I'm satisfied with my creation, the look, and my $255 in pocket TYVM.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 7331424

Even these are more complex in shape and only $28. Im sure as I have to replace parts, Ill find more items where price does not make sense. Welcome to the world of Porsche I guess.

POST 29Original post

Porsche charges that much because folks are willing to pay that much. No more. No less. Just like the gov't paying $600 for hammers back in the early years of space flight. To pad the bottom line for something else... I just looked closely at that E-bay website offered above for those $28 spoilers and those babies are a WHOLE lot bigger than the one on my factory Aero I taco spoiler. Those are meant to BE the spoiler, not a Gurney Flap ON a spoiler. Those might look good on your Honda or Toyota sedan rear deck, but NOT as an add-on to a Porsche spoiler.

POST 30Original post

You only buy the gurney lip once... the front lip is a throw away. Im on my 2nd set front lip.... The taco wing is rare... they are hard to find, why put after market on it. Im sure the prices will just go up from here.... you're lucky you are not in the market for a PSE, the 3.4 engine cost more than the 3.6. Just bite the bullet and move on..... yes, welcome to the world of Porsche.

POST 31Original post

http://www.cargraphic.de/index.php?/...1108/&start=15 Not a cheap alternative, but it is an even bigger gurney lip and in combination with the larger top center, looks awesome on the car

A steal at only 476,00 EURO ...

POST 33Original post

well, actually it's only 400 euros, and it is Carbon Fiber. Here is a better picture

POST 34Original post

Looks like a star ship mock up for the next Star Trek movie. For some reason I can see a motorcycle cop using that wing on my car as a table to write a ticket on.

R and D and liability. Lawyer: so you are going to sell a $5 piece of plastic to go on the wing of the car. Why? Porsche: to help stablize the car at 150 mph. Lawyer: and what are you going to do when sally homemaker sews the crap out of you becasue her hubby died in a car crash going 149 mph becasue he was trying out his new $5 plastic piece that claimed it would make the car go faster and he wanted to "test it out" Porsche: thats your problem Lawyer: increase your liability insurance, you are going to need it.
