Currently I am using LEDs only for interior lighting, license plate, and parking lights (side and front).
Leading evidence: 'Use leds only' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace brake light w/ something' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I wouldn't want to replace a brake light w/ something that isn't at least as bright as OEM.

Suggestion
As far as replacing individual bulbs in critical areas I feel that the LED brightness just isn't quite there yet (but will be soon).

Suggestion
Just be aware that you may need to replace with amber bulbs for state inspections.

Therefore you also have to get some type of extra impedence/adapter to hook into the light, or use a mix of regular and LED bulbs.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Regular clear bulbs look great, and are plenty bright as well. I bought silver (reflective coated) over clear for F & R turn signals from this site:
http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm
Yes, you are correct, that is a 9 led tower. In fact I just put them in the cayenne and they look even better.
The vendor is "sixity" on Ebay or you can also find them at
www.sixity.com
So far all their LEDs have been good.
Hey Medtec since you seem to be the RL LED Guru, I've got a related question for ya.
Do any of you guys know where one could get 996 C4S, LED rear taillight assemblies?
There are tons out there for 996's but none for the C4S (they have a horizontal "hump/ridge" right at the line between the red and clear lenses).
Cheers!!
Sid.
There are no 9 LED towers available at sixity.com... :-(
What about this one?
http://stores.channeladvisor.com/six...W%205304%20W3W
Any other vendor you'd recommend?
Sid,
To be honest, I have not done much research on that, and there are a few reasons. As far as whole assemblies are concerned, fitment and quality are a concern, as well as throwing warning lights due to the low draw of the LEDs. Therefore you also have to get some type of extra impedence/adapter to hook into the light, or use a mix of regular and LED bulbs.
As far as replacing individual bulbs in critical areas I feel that the LED brightness just isn't quite there yet (but will be soon). I wouldn't want to replace a brake light w/ something that isn't at least as bright as OEM. To me that would take a minimum of a 3 watt LED small enough to fit the application. (This also becomes a problem because LEDs don't like heat and a constant on LED needs a heatsink, which makes it larger).
Currently I am using LEDs only for interior lighting, license plate, and parking lights (side and front). You can also put one in the trunk like Whitey did, but because of the heat I don't think it would do well in the engine compartment.

Hey guys,
I went to a few local shops to get led turn signal towers (front) and found out that all the led's available had the bayonet pins located at 12 and 6 O'clock (when viewing bulb stem upside down) where as the stock P bulb has the pins at 12 and 5 O'clock...
One shop suggested to cut new grooves in the bulb stem housing to make them fit but I'm not willing to do that.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Obviously some of you have blinker led light that fit, where did you guys get them?
Thanks!
Sid.
FYI if you wreck that little turn signal socket you can un-plug it from the headlight assy, then for $900 Porsche will sell you an entire new headlight assy.
The socket is not offered for sale by itself. Not sure if there is a cross reference # or not, but after 3 months I felt happy to find a used one in New York.
Man I am 1/2 sick with a cold I picked up at the track from being out in the cold rain all day, I am coughing and laughing at the same time. This is TFF
[QUOTE=Psycho Sid;7319802]I hear ya, that's why I'm not willing to go that route.
Do you have led turn signal bulbs in your headlight housing?QUOTE]
Let's go for 4 pages!
Or if someone puts up a little eye candy, maybe 10!
Anyway, IMO leave the turn signals alone.
The easy bulbs to go LED with are the parking lights. That would be the pumpkins, and the ones in the headlight assembly. Both are flat 194 push in connectors. Keep in mind that most LEDs today are polarized, so if it doesn't work, just rotate it 180 and reinstall.
Last Sunday I noticed while looking through the view finder of my SLR camera that a fellow porsche club cruise members 997 LED lights were flashing. Lower camera lights aren't flashing. Look through view finder again and lights apear to be flashing. Real strange. I have to include this picture too.
Hahahahahahahaaa... here comes page 4
Ooooh boys will be boys
BTW I think that's pic of the new 997 DDD wide body
Ok here's my contribution to the "blinker thread", at the last calender shoot..I thought it was a teabag!!!
Ooooh you guys are killing me! (I think a little pie came out...)

BTW Medtech (before I forget 'cause I'm having a really hard time concentrating
)
Thanks for the heads-up!
I think I'll follow you're advise and let it be.
Cheers
Sid.
Ok quick update.
I bought the LED bulbs and it isn't bright enough. I put in amber 5W bulbs and behind the clear side markers it looks very crisp and bright at night.
I am very happy that this thread generated such interesting pictures :-)
A Philips 5W 2827 bulb that I had left over from a buy I did of a whole bunch of bulbs from Powerbulbs that UK based online store over a year ago for my other cars...
I don't think they carry it anymore though :-(
