Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I was thinking about the way it looks real clean especially with the carbon fiber setup.
Leading evidence: 'Clean especially' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean especially' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anybody thinking about the TechArt or Gemballa intakes? Anyone know the cost on these? I was thinking about the way it looks real clean especially with the carbon fiber setup. Does someone have this running on their 996? hp tq numbers on a stock 996 with an intake add on. Does the price of other vendors justify for performance or will I be throwing money away for just sound? Why not just add a GT3 or GT2 airbox and be done with it wouldn't this work?

My guess, and I have no data, is that most CAI offer sound improvements as the #1 noticable improvement. The cost varies from couple hundred, to $500 or more. The biggest area of discussion is do they work.
The areas of concern are sucking in oil, CAI's that get air from the engine bay (also known as warm/hot air) and power/torque drops vs claims of large gains.
The models you have listed are good. But you will have to sift thru the claims, complaints and costs.

The least expensive and best solution IMO is to throw a BMC F1 filter into your stock air box. You get all the benefits, none of the liability, and it's only $125.
I just feel there are better ways to improve the sound/performance (maybe) than to reduce filtering capacity.
I remember somewhere had some graphs of flow and filtration vs. filter life for a bunch of different filters but I can't find it now. End result was that the oiled filters filtered fine at the start but went to **** after a couple of thousand miles, where the paper filters got worse at flow as they aged but remained solid filters.
If I were to do anything to the intake of my 996 it would be to mimic the evolution that has occurred in the high performance versions of the 911 (997S X51 and GT3/RS). Dual intakes on the filter box with paths that are sealed to the engine lid when it is closed. Those cars also have scoops to help direct more airflow into the airbox, I would do the same.
Hmm.... your right 944CS I may have to look into this, plus it would look stock if done correctly. Decent power gains would be achieved too. Then it would have a Ram-Air effect right.
Well I would have to see the graph you're talking about. Everything I've read claims that an oiled filter actually traps more dirt as time goes on (cause as it gets dirty the spaces become smaller). So in essence the reuseable filter has perhaps too much flow in the beginning and as it gets dirty there is less flow, but still more than paper and much more than dirty paper.
Well, Bob is the man!
Nice study.
Not sure that it supports the theory that oiled filters have worse filtration over time (ie when they are dirty). If anything it seems that as dirt gets trapped, flow goes down and filtration goes up across the board.
What was interesting is to see that there really isn't much difference in flow over paper. Although my car does have less throttle lag and better sound w/ an oiled filter.
If memory serves me right, isn't 996 OEM paper and foam? Wonder what the flow is on that?
