Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My "L-shaped dip stick" was my finger...To replace the fluid you remove the fill and drain plug, drain, replace the drain plug, fill until it just leaks out of the fill port, and then seal her up.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is there a way to check the auto tranny fluid? I have found zero on this in my OM, and am thinking it is something that only Porsche service can do.
Grazie!!
This might sound sketchy , but I listened closely to my indy on how it's done. First, obviously no dipstick. - get the car lifted and level, operatiing temp.
-with a catch pan underneath, remove the trans plug..if fluid drips out, then the level is good.
there is a somewhat baffle // dam which holds back the tranny fluid and only allows what is at the lip to slop over.
- if you do not get any drippage, then you may have to investigate how low the fluid is.
- if the fluid is dark or you know it hasn't been changed, then the procedure is on P-car or maybe RT. it's kind of involved.
- tranny fluid is expensive.
Renntech is down right now but I remember having to make an "L" shape dipstick with a set length to check the level of the tranny (forgot the length). Used a piece of wire to make the dip stick... when replacing fluid, just re-fill it till it spills over and button it up.
the Tip tranny fluid change is about $200. without the TC flush, it's about 9 quarts .
The 00 Tip I have is made by VW; my indy said the tranny fluid is like $13 per quart, grayish, smells real funky. He showed me Audi tranny fluid..very similar if not the exact type.
I think I'm running the original fluid, so appt. made to do the filter and fluid change real soon.
I think you guys are making too much of this. It's no more complicated that any other car's transmission. My "L-shaped dip stick" was my finger...To replace the fluid you remove the fill and drain plug, drain, replace the drain plug, fill until it just leaks out of the fill port, and then seal her up. Done.
The Redline oil sales guy came in to my business to drop off some oil and noticed my Carrera. He said their trans oil works real well in Porsches. I think it retails for around $15 a quart or so, I can get it for less. Has anyone tried it, and if so what are your impressions? He claimed it will make the shifting buttery smooth. Mine usually is except when cold.
I wouldn't do aftermarket fluids unless you have been doing them already or know firsthand that they are compatible. Porsche, Pentosin or similar. Amsoil, Royal Purple, Valvoline, Pennzoil, Motorcraft, Redline why? unless you get it for free and are willing to flush it out sooner than later, you shouldn't risk doing some damage. my .02
Dont get manual and Tips confused on the proper procedures for changing/checking fluid levels.
That could be detrimental!!!

I use Redline 75/90. I change it every year. Takes about 30 minutes (fifteen to jack car and put on stand).
1) Drian oil from plug on bottom of transmission and take plug from top out so the fluid can drain.
2) Put drain back in bottom.
3) Put new transmission fluid in. I think it's about 3.2 qts.. Put in until it's barely dripping out of uppermost plug.
4) Put uppermost plug back in
5) Drive away.
