If anyone remembers the 80s film Cannonball run, well the Gumball 3000 is pretty much the real life version of the Cannonball run. Not a timed event, no prize for 1st place, but just fun cracy driving for 3k miles and crazy parties at the end of each stop. The 1st stop of the Gumball 3000 rally this year was in Los Angeles this past weekend, I think the route is something like SF, LA, SD, LV, N Korea, China for this year. One of the perks about owning an exotic is that you get invited to an event like this, so I was able to put my Ferrari on display on Hollywood blvd right in front of the Kodak theater where the whole block was closed off for the reception of the Gumball 3000 rally cars. Here are some pics from this Saturday, there were a good number of RR there of course driven by famouse celebrities. Jonny Knoxville, David Hasselhoff (Nightrider car), and some super rich people from around the world. Enjoy Of course we will start with pics of my Ferrari. :P Big crowd there Supposely this is the richest youngest person in the world. (Networth like 20 billion, from Russia 30 some odd years old) A lot of Porsches there RR Hot babe from one of the TV shows Funky looking color on this Ferrari Jonny Knoxville and the crew The most exotic rare car there, a Apollo Gumpert

POST 2Original post

what is the entrance fee to join the rally... $20k-$30k?, Nice pics man...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah $125k for the entire rally, I was offered a "Discounted" price of $15k for the SF-LV part of the rally. I think it is worth it if my schedule permitted, I see this as once in a lift time experience.

Either you're missing a digit, misplaced a comma, or...?

POST 6Original post

who is/are the organizers of the rally, the purpose for such an event and most importantly what do they do with the money???

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 5693381

thats it... Im gonna start my own rally for half the cost. Who's in?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

http://www.gumball3000.com/ You can rent the previous gumball3000 videos from Netflix to get an idea the fun factor of these events. Lots of Porsches in the Gumball events.

POST 10Original post

Classy guys. Last year's rally ended when a speeding Porsche slammed in to an elderly couple killing them both. The humanitarians attempted to flee in another car. While the driver was out on bail he again tried to flee the country by private plane. This is auto racing if Paris Hilton were CEO.

POST 11Original post

^^^ Ugh. And, ha. Hey, by the way there's a new Death Race moving coming out. And it's got a Porsche!

POST 12Original post

btw, what's up with that guy behind your car....

POST 13Original post

So...it's a bunch of trust fund babies with too little skill to head to a track?

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5694531

Which one? The one picking his nose? I don't know man, it was crazy. When I got home I had like 200 finger prints on the back of my car. I think they all wanted to touch it so they can have the bragging rights to say they touched a Ferrari.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 5694628

Right, that's funny. In every picture with a crowd, there's someone doing something odd.... Anyway, looks like it was fun....

POST 16Original post

Maximillion Cooper started it back 99 or 00. One of the first was across the united states. Year after year the rally becomes bigger and bigger and travel the planet. The fee includes all hotels special events throughout the rally, air transportation for the car and occupants etc. If I remember correctly, they had a party at the playboy mansion during one of the rally. At first anybody with cash could attend the rally but now it's more of who knows who and what kind of car you're driving. Either you have the most expensive impossible exotic car or camo 360 spyder.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Actually I saw plenty of beater Porsches at the event last night, there was one 996 rally car that looked exactly like my beater 996 same color combo and everything. There were also lots of "cheaper" cars. I heard that the next year's rally would start from the Playboy mansion....

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5694550

I am sure there are quit of few of trust fund babies in the rally, but there are also many self made individual who just wants to have some fun. At every stop of the rally, there usually is a track reserved for everyone to track their car on the track.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 5694550

Pretty much. Or they're probably related to the guy who had his Lambo shipped to another country for an oil change. Lots of money, very little brains.

POST 20Original post

Oh, Max Cooper, so you know it's for people of high moral constitutions. Isn't that the same oxygen thief who claims to spread computer viruses and does in fact spam mail people''s private message boxes on car forums?

POST 21Original post

<saw> 1/2 price version start up... can we get the fee a BIT lower? I am IN !! <no nose picking though...too hard to drive that way> As for the poor people who died, I am sorry....however people die in car related accidents with or without this race.. I feel sorry for them, I am not heartless, its just a fact. Ed

POST 23Original post

why all that bitching about billionairs spending money..remember for them 100K is the same as for us 100 bucks....think outside the box for once! I wish I got the cash I would join....besides a couple of ******** (and you don't need to be rich to be an *******!!) most of them must be so much fun..I have seen clips of the race on tv...and they are having a blast!! Must be nice to be rich!!!

POST 24Original post

"As for the poor people who died, I am sorry....however people die in car related accidents with or without this race.. I feel sorry for them, I am not heartless, its just a fact. Ed" Serious? You my friend are an idiot.

POST 25Original post

I just happen to currently be reading The Driver , by Alexander Roy (on the bookshelves at Barnes & Noble). He chronicals the life of the regular rally folks who attend these events over and over, as he seeks to find the mastermind and creator of original outlaw high speed run filmed in the short Rendezvous . Fun reading, actually. Lots of fun stuff about the Gumball Rallies through 2006, and then history of the legends of this "sport" going back to the first Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash created in the early 70's by Brock Yates.

I don't know what you're talking about! Hi Ed!

POST 28Original post

Awe man ! <puts on the IDIOT HAT and sits in the corner> Ed (aka the idiot)

POST 29Original post

DanJk- You speak the truth. My father and I seriously considered running in one. After meeting some of the participants and the organizers and realizing their level of responsibility we decided not to. The event should have been banned after the recent deaths. http://www.gumball3000blog.com/2007/...-jet/#more-341

POST 30Original post

The year they did Europe they went by our holiday spot in spain, unfortunately we weren't there at the moment, could have been a lot of fun to see the acutal rally. But Robin, it most have been a really great day.

Was just about to say the same thing. The Cannonball movie from the 80s was created on the real Cannonball run in the 70s. Could have been great to attend one of these at the time!

These people probably expect "entitlement" due to their net worth. Unfortunately, accidents, deaths and vehicular manslaughter seem like they're part of their "entitlement."

Highlights from Zoolander's link, 997TT Gumball crash driver tried to flee in private jet : "The British Gumball Rally 3000 driver arrested in Macedonia over a fatal car crash was caught trying to flee the country in a private jet Nick Morley, 30, ... is facing possible criminal action after a high-speed collision that killed a local couple The brother of a wealthy property developer, Morley was behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 when it collided with a Volkswagen Golf ..., killing the driver Vladimir Chepunjoski, 67, and his wife Margarita. Morley, from Bowden, Cheshire, and co-driver Matthew McConville, 36, from Prestwich, Greater Manchester, are alleged to have left the scene Border guards stopped them shortly afterwards, however, as they tried to cross into Albania in another contestants car. Mr Chepunjoski died on the way to hospital from severe head injuries, while his wife died on Friday night in Skopje. "24 hours after the Porsche accident, the Gumball 3000 Organisation has decided to cancell the rally for the remaining part. Another two cars have been crashed, this time in Montenegro. The red Ford GT, because of high speeds and bad weather and another Porsche GT was also wrecked. This Ford GT was involved in an accident with the Porsche Carrera GT."

POST 34Original post

I love sport cars and car racing. But idiots who consider that open roads -especially not hiways- are a track should finish in jail. IMHO.

POST 35Original post

Curve- Nice addition. IrocMan- Yes, putting innocent people at risk on public roads is just plain wrong. The One Lap of America though is very well run. All drivers must have a racing license and all high speed events are at closed circuits and track like venues. Mr. Brock Yates even alerts law enforcement to the routes that participants take on public roads.

POST 36Original post

Robin, What if they let you race for free, but you had to paint the Ferrari bright pink?

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Riad, I was offered the US leg for only $15k, I would love to do it just for the experience. But I just don't have the time to spare do it right now, that's life with a 2.5 years old and a 4 month old..... Maybe later on in my life. Not so much about driving insanely above the speed limit, but just for the experience as another tale to tell later in life.

POST 38Original post

Yes, I hear you Robin. I have a 6 year old, and your priorities do indeed change.

POST 39Original post

Robin Mine are almost 6 and 3 and I stopped racing 5 years ago. You can still rent a race car ( I used to work for one of these companies) for $20K and be a serious competitor on just one pro-am race if you know how to handle a wheel. I think more and more of this. I don't want to burn my week-ends for hobby cars like I used to, I want to spend them with my kids and my wife, but I must admit that a little 6 hours would be exciting

POST 40Original post

lol at dan.... yeah would be so much more fun on a track if they could drive, however world wide road trip with a convoy of porsche drivers for a childrens charity is not such a bad idea.... may be we should arrange ... have a global rennlist charity meet ?
