Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I found a set of '02 barely used mufflers on E-Bay (only 2,000 miles on these cans!) and had my machinist weld the stainless pipes per Rennlist Forum recs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After reading multiple threads about modification of mufflers, I finally finished my own swap-out yesterday. I found a set of '02 barely used mufflers on E-Bay (only 2,000 miles on these cans!) and had my machinist weld the stainless pipes per Rennlist Forum recs. Finally put them in yesterday, the biggest problem being removal of my own rusted muffler clamp bolts! Despite only having 19K miles on my car, the bolts had a coat of significant rust (Hint: heat and impact wrenches are invaluable tools neither of which I have in my garage). The sound is much more mellow than I had expected, and truly complements the nature of the car. Sporting, yet not intrusive at any speed. Because of the low miles of the modded mufflers, I am expecting the sound to get a little louder as the miles roll on. A nice mod to the car, and thanks to Tim and others who have posted in the past with instructions and tips.

POST 2Original post

Thanks for sharing. Nice sailboat in your avatar!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! It is an '81 Bristol 35.5 and does wonders for my soul.

POST 4Original post

very nice. i too modded the exhaust on my MK2 996. not aggressive enough IMO it was pretty easy to swap the exhaust.

POST 5Original post

An excellent mod, and you can't beat the price! For a more aggressive sound try the MkI mod on 3.6 cans.

POST 6Original post

Well done I am very happy with the result of my MkIII Mod: Doble round tail pipes Modification of 997 C4S cans to a 996 C2

POST 7Original post

Nice boat I will look for this mod detail in other treads, can I ask what the cans set you back (so I have an idea on pricing) I too would like a "little" more but not put the car in the loud box... after all it is a really nice car too... not JUST a sports car Ed
