Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

^ yeah those are simple fixes - I've had the cam covers and spark plug tubes replaced due to leaking.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I went to take the C4S out yesterday and noticed a small oil spot on the garage floor. It was on the drivers side between the rear tire and the back of the car, about the size of a quarter. I have the Pre-Owned warrantee, I was just wondering what I might be in for? How long it will it be out of service? Should I have anything else done during the work? 2004 C4S with 12,000 miles Pat

POST 2Original post

Sounds like cam cover seal/ cam plug/ spark plug tube. They're all in the same place on the left and right of the car.

POST 3Original post

^ yeah those are simple fixes - I've had the cam covers and spark plug tubes replaced due to leaking. It was leaking on the left side and dripping on the header. An RMS would be in front of the engine in the middle. A 2004 with only 12k miles? Don't you like to drive your car?

POST 4Original post

you're OK, happens to the best of us. RMS is between the engine and the trans.

POST 5Original post

Very interesting letter to the editor in this month's Excellence regarding RMS. The seal works best with a vaccum when the engine is running. It also gives a further explanation as to why it leaks. Drive the car and it won't leak as much.

That was in reference to a 997 GT3 RS, not the 996.

Compared to Phil, that's HIGH mileage!
