I just changed my oil 3K miles ago, so I asked the dealer the cost of the 30K service and I was told around $900.00.

Suggestion

I told them to back out the oil change because I just did it with Mobile 1, and they said to take off about $200.00, so figure $700.00 for the 30K service.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found an 02 Coupe with 30K mi certified from dealer. I checked their service records, it was originally purchased at the dealer in January of 02. after that, no service records at that dealer are in place until the 30K mi service, which was done to certify the car for sale. I hear the 15K service is basically an oil change (what the sales man told me) and was probably done somewhere else. If the car is certified and up to date on services, am I in the clear? I asked about RMS issues, they said they arent a problem on 02's. I hear 02's are just as prone to RMS leaks as other years, is this true? Also, does porsche's certification program ensure that I will have a healthy clutch and other important parts that can wear from previous users potentiall abusing the car? Thanks for the help everyone.

POST 2Original post

this is not true, 02s are just as prone (like you suspected) as any other M96 engined 996. don't you love it when they will say ANYTHING to sell a car? my favourite was when i was in the BMW dealer getting my M3 serviced, expressed some interest in the Z8 they had "this baby has a V12, will outrun any ferrari on the street". wow i said, and just turned around and walked back into the service department's waiting area.

POST 3Original post

These dealers are all the same!!! I would love to open my own and actually say and treat people right with respect and honesty...I would probably go Broke doing that!!!!

POST 4Original post

Your right about going broke. 'Sales Associates' (not all) tend to tell you what you want to hear. There was a recent thread on salesperson dealings and some of the stupid things people have heard. Good reading Thats classis, 'the 2002's are exempt from RMS failures.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yea, i figured the sales guy was full of it on that comment. ..and this guy is your stereotypical salesman, which i would not expect to encounter at a Porsche dealership. I guess i need to dig as deep into vehicle history as I can and see if there have been any RMS issues in the past.

POST 6Original post

Interesting thread, especially since I just signed last night to buy a very low mileage (7,400) 2002 Coupe from a local dealer. The one saving grace (which was very important to me) is that the car should still be under warranty for a period of time (4 years, in my case). This peace of mind is worth a huge amount to me. Have you seen a printout of the DME? This will tell you all about any abuse by the previous owner. Best of luck! Marc

POST 8Original post

I'm looking for a used 04' cab. When I visited my dealer and asked about the RMS problems, the salesman acted like he had never heard about it? I had to say "rear main seal" leaking. Then I got the, "oh, that problem has been fixed"....... I'm still going to buy one, with warranty, but jeez....how dumb do they think the average Joe is?

POST 9Original post

My 2002 coupe that now just turned 30K miles today had the RMS replaced at 23K miles. While they were at it I had a new clutch put in for $600 bucks. No problems so far, but I guess I need to take it in for the 30K service. I just changed my oil 3K miles ago, so I asked the dealer the cost of the 30K service and I was told around $900.00. I told them to back out the oil change because I just did it with Mobile 1, and they said to take off about $200.00, so figure $700.00 for the 30K service. This sould ok???? I'm also going to have them look the car over for anything warrantable, as the warranty is up in June.
