Installed pics to come and I still need to replace that gauge trim piece that is missing.

I would really recommend the 997 hardbacks for seat upgrade, the bolt right in.

I should research replacing the leather a little further.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
I've been lurking around this forum for the last few months and figured it was my time to contribute. First of all, a quick thanks to all for the sheer amount of info and great photos. I love looking at other progress builds and photos, so I thought I'd add mine to the mix.
I picked up this 99 911 C2 back in July of this year. I really wasn't looking when I saw it being advertised locally. I believe I live close to a few members on this forum in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Our cars don't come up for sale too often in this area, so I thought I'd look ASAP.
Arriving to see the the car that morning, my first reaction was it wasn't for me. Here are the seller photos:
Where to start; There is 115,000 km (71,000 miles) on the car. The seller said the IMS was done. I have zero proof of that and no maintenance records. The car had a grey wrap on it that, IMO, looked gross. The turbo rep wheels were salt corroded, from the roads or proximity to the ocean, despite there being no rust underneath. Rear tires were bald. The window regulator was broken, driver seat ripped, shift assembly felt like a wet noodle, plenty of missing trim pieces. Overall the interior was just rough and neglected. I was completely ready to walk away when the seller told me to take it for a quick drive.
I grudgingly took the key. It started no problem, I pulled out onto the street and I struggled to get it into second. At this point I was still a hard no, but when I shifted into 3rd everything changed. The sounds from the engine and intake, the feeling of the steering and how planted it felt on those twisty roads, I was smiling instantly. I knew then I would buy it.
Look away now if you're someone who gets a PPI or oil samples taken before a purchase. I did
everything
I know not to. I got back, told the seller I'd take it, and 3 hrs later I was on my way to a friends shop to see what I had done. Too impulsive. I know.
First thing I did while the shop was ordering parts was to remove the wrap. I did it right there in their parking lot. It took maybe 2hrs, a little tedious, but came off fairly well. I wish I would have taken more progress pics. I only have a few pics of the wrap removed:
You can see on the rear bumper and decklid where some clear coat came off with the wrap. The car would need some panels painted moving forward. Also you can see the 295 rear tires that came with it. IMO they looked too wide.
Here is a list of what was completed by my local shop. Guys there are great.
4 x Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. 2 x 225/40/18 2x 275/35/18. Not the best, not the worst. They were priced well and went with them.
Trans fluid replaced with Redline ATF
Oil and filter change with Liqui Moly 5w40.
AOS and lines. Before I discovered the UAOS. There was a slight leak from it.
Plugs and Coils replaced.
RF endlink replaced.
Air and cabin filter.
Drivers side window regulator.
Rein motor mounts.Trans mounts still to be installed.
Wiper blades and misc light bulbs.
Only have 1 pic after that first few days of work and with a very basic wash. I spent hours trying to scrub the interior and take note of what to replace.
I stumbled upon a set of Techart Formula wheels on marketplace that I had to have. I'm a child of the 90's and these felt period correct for me. I also ordered some clear markers from Aliexpress on the cheap. You can see some of the paint damage to hood in second pic.
For the interior so far I've ordered some odds and ends from Pelican parts. Door airbag plugs, seat belt trim pieces, and a new overhead cover for the lights. I ordered a short shift console from Design 911, I guess its a Numeric knock off. I didn't know that at the time of ordering. Also an ICT shifter to replace the worn stock one. I think it still retains some of the stock look which is my goal and shifts are night and day better. No more sloppy second shifts unless its cold and I'm downshifting. Installed pics to come and I still need to replace that gauge trim piece that is missing.
Seats and steering wheel are still the biggest items to go for the interior. I really like the look of some of the other members choices here. I'm torn between replacing my steering wheel with what
@freddworks
has done or upgrading to a stock 3 spoke. I haven't seen many in grey that are priced well. I also love the look of the Corbeau RRS Tartan seats. They are probably my next purchase if I get them shipped to Canada.
Anyway, this post has gotten long, but short term exterior items to go are paint, and spoiler harness to get rid of nuisance wing light. Most likely paint will be spring of 2024. I'll be sure to update any new purchases.
Yey! Another build thread!
I did the exact same thing when I bought mine, just fell in love right away...
The OEM three spoke wheel is at least for me way too big. Unless you can find a GT3 (360mm).
The Classic wheel is a great choice, and with the works bell hub the steering wheels sits perfect
I wish! Black! not sure of the paint code. I'll check under the hood and report back.
Thanks for the info and thanks for the link you posted. Love what you've done with your car. Shipping to Canada seems to be the wild card when shopping in Europe or the US for parts.
Of course, it's better to share so everyone can benefit!
Check with your local Porsche dealer, since it's a Porsche Classic wheel they should be available.
I have some mere fun interior upgrades in the pipeline, check out my IG if you want.
Looking forward to see the progress of your build
Congrats !! Looks like you got a good daily driver ....
Post up the build sheet from under the hood and the door tag/build date......
You may want to just recover those sport seats, they are a step up from the basic seat, and many people would love to have the sport seats...
Great idea! Usually try and avoid the local dealerships but worth a phone call for sure. I'll definitely check out your IG!
Thanks very much! She's a weekend car at the moment but has been fun to drive and bring back to life. Have a 2016 Tundra crewmax to haul the kiddo to Hockey
I'll snap a photo of the build sheet and door tag tonight after work. Maybe you, or some of the other sharp eyes can help out and catch something my untrained Porsche eyes haven't. I did think about recovering the OEM seats. I did a cursory look online for replacement leather but nothing jumped out at me yet. Those Corbeaus caught my eye and I stopped looking. I should research replacing the leather a little further. Thanks!
Under 1 bar of oil pressure at idle? Isn't that a tad low? Looks like the car was hot?
Anyway, it looks miles better without the wrap and the fake 97 turbo wheels. Glad this is being saved.
If it were me I'd keep the stock seats and wheel
Congrats on the car and the fun you will have in refreshing it. Love the new wheels. Forgot how good they look on the 996. Sounds like you have done your homework and know what you are doing. Looking forward to seeing more about your progress. Glad to see you are keeping a 996 on the road. Great car!
Man, just taking the wrap off made a day and night difference! Always good to see a car being saved.
One warning on Corbeaus, if you enjoy performance driving and weigh more than 100lbs you'll likely notice a lot of flex. Stiffer seats will be accordingly more pricey unfortunately.
@Junkrat
welcome to 996 ownership. Good on you for rescuing that '99! I'm in Digby area. Join the PCA, it's well worth it. Acadia Region FB - https://www.facebook.com/AcadiaRegionPCA?mibextid=ZbWKwL. Activities are done for winter other than some social events.
mines a 100k mile '01 C2 6MT Sunroof Coupe in Meridian metallic. I've spent way too much on her. But she in good nick. I think I'll put her away for winter, it's a NC car, never seen snow or brine and I've decided to keep it that way. Right now fighting a vacuum leak or a bad MAF. Nothing major.
Hope to see you in the spring!
I would really recommend the 997 hardbacks for seat upgrade, the bolt right in. Super easy to wire in to!
You sit lower and they are just an awesome OEM+ upgrade!
Been busy and forgot to post hood build sheet. I see it shows code," 436", 3-spoke steering wheel, I guess a previous owner swapped it out along the way. The following is what I found so far, any sharp eyes see anything else? Thanks!

It’s great to see another enthusiast in the Halifax area. Your '99 911 C2 is a real gem, and it’s always exciting when one of our own snags such a beauty. It’s true, we don’t see these classics pop up in our neck of the woods very often, so it’s quite the event when they do. Can’t wait to see the progress on your build and perhaps even spot you on the roads here. Cheers to your new journey, and thanks for deciding to share it with us!
