Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, My 996.2 (2002) has 300k kilometers (200k miles) on the clock. It has soot on the left exhaust, we boroscoped it a month ago during its service and all is clean. So I am trying to minimize the soot otherwise known as unburnt fuel. I am looking at 2 areas, oxygen sensors and ignition coils. My spark plugs were replaced a month ago with NGK BKR7EQUP (4285). Ignition Coils: My car has 2 types BERU 0040.100.031 DHZ3 and 0040.100.021 AFT2. This latter one is also designated as 997.602.102.00. I am planning to change all of them. Which part number to use please? Autodoc shows 0040.100.178 UBE1 but I am not sure. Oxygen Sensors : Left exhaust means right side (cylinders 4-5-6). Which sensors should I replace? Before and After Catalytic converter? Which part is the right one? Apart from that, can you guide me to the correct trim values I should get? I am in the process of making a PIWIS 3 with 6154 clone to work, in order to get the values of each side and compare with a benchmark... I dont know what the benchmark should be though. Thank you in advance.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After a lot of experimentation i think i managed to get the best out of right bank of my engine. Soot is reduced, much-much closer to the left bank. I replaced the following parts: MAF SENSOR: I used NGK 93006 (made in the UK) INJECTORS: 3x BOSCH 0280156053 (blue ones) Oxygen Sensors post&pre cat: I used BOSCH 0258006433 and 0256006435. I use Mobil1 5w50 with one bottle of Ceratec. The result speaks for itself: This is a photo after 200km on the road. Adaptations were reset after changing the o2 sensors. I have not replaced the coil packs.

POST 3Original post

Did you borescope from the bottom of the engine, or through the spark plug holes?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

from the top. Since then, I made 5000km and added 500ml of oil. Was running 5w40, I switched to 5w50 last week. The car is not burning any oil or smokes, so I am happy. I also fixed some vaccum leaks, I have posted elsewhere on the forum

Nice to know the cheap MAF works well and you don't have to spend 10x the amount for the Porsche one.

I paid for a Bosch one, probably faulty because I didnt get the result I needed. This is why I post part numbers, so that it can be useful to somebody else
