Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also had to use a claybar on the hood as it was like sandpaper from fallout.

Meguiars DACP first, then I spot touched with 3M FI-II Finishing Material (I didn't have enough to do the whole car, so I had to use DACP), then followed by 3M SMR for dark cars, and finished with Mothers Refelctions Top-Coat.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

My first Porsche as well. I was driving an Audi RS 4 and then a Dodge Viper SRT/10 before, but I lost my long-term car, as it went back to our office in Chicago and I needed to get something I could drive every day, which the Viper was not.
It's Black on Black, PSM, PSE, Hi-Fi, Leather Package, 18" Sport Wheels, Rear Wiper, and a few other things I don't remember.
I'll just start by saying the previous owner had no idea how to wash a car. This car is straight black, non-metalic, so it shows absolutely everything. The whole car was covered with quite deep washing scratches. To give you an idea of the extent of the damage, he would just wipe down the car with a chamois after driving in the rain. Yeahhh... Essentially the car was just one big haze.
Meguiars DACP first, then I spot touched with 3M FI-II Finishing Material (I didn't have enough to do the whole car, so I had to use DACP), then followed by 3M SMR for dark cars, and finished with Mothers Refelctions Top-Coat. There is not one swirl or scratch on the car anymore. All was done with a porter-cable dual action buffer.
This was my first time working with DACP, but I heard it was pretty similar to FI-II in terms of cutting strength, and I think it may be a little easier to work with. However, I think FI-II works better and leaves behind a better shine. I also had to use a claybar on the hood as it was like sandpaper from fallout.
This took about 7 hours, but nothing shines quite like a black car.
Just thought I'd share, and I look forward to participating here.

welcome to RL !
WOW - first post, pics, history, intro with specs.....how do you expect to have us verbally assult you, especially when your car looks so freaking HOT!!!
SH*T Nice job man!
BEAUTIFUL beyond words!
That's because you can buy a 911 for the cost of a Cayman S. And that is a no-brainer.
Granted I like the 997 a little more, but for the price I can't complain about my 996, especially since it's essentially new.

I completely agree - I'm going on three months soon and picked this car up for less cash than I would have needed to restore my 944 S2 Cabrio. Huge bang for the buck with these cars!
Beautiful car, Anthony. Nice job on bringing the black paint back to "new". Welcome to Rennlist and thanks for including the detailing products you used! Love that rear shot...that girl is shining!!!
Car's beautiful - incredible detail job. It's true - there is nothing prettier than a perfectly detailed black car. Enjoy and welcome to the looney bin.
Beautiful car, congratulations! My 2003 that I bought two years ago - Basalt Black also had plenty of swirl marks from the previous owner, a porter cable made it look showroom new once again, like yours!
Thank you for sharing the pictures!

Nice, way to go, good work, 7 hours, probably seemed longer than that while you working on it.
Well the effort paid off, bet you can feel really proud of your car now.
Enjoy your weekend!
Yummy. Makes me wanna go out in the garage and start humping mine. Of course I can't, that would leave entirely too many fingerprints and scuff marks on my black paint...
Enjoy.
