Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking at a 2000 996 coupe. car has 44000 miles. Issues are right front shock squeeks over bumps...bushing? spring? bad shock? There is a rattle in the headliner...seems to be a beam of sort s under the seam in the headliner about 8-10 inches behind the sunroof which is rattling or loose. Gas cap will not lock. Center console glove box hinges are broken/torn off. Car drives well. Transmission shifts well, clutch seems to be good. Paint is very good. Dash is perfect. Driver seat bolster has minor wear. Any insights would be appreciated and ideas of cost for repairs...priced at 26995; a bit high. I am looking to have a daily driver which will be well taken care of, but not a garage queen by any means. Thanks so much

right front shock squeeks over bumps Very common rattle in the headliner Also common, some cheat fixes available Gas cap will not lock Locks when doors are locked only Center console glove box hinges are broken/torn off. Common, there are fixes, I removed my spring and left it alone Get a PPI and report findings

POST 3Original post

...not to be nosey, but I have seen posts that lead to squeaky front ends being largely LCA-related??? ALSO: I saw a 2001 C2 Black on tan, 6spd, 44K miles - beautiful - today at a local Indy dealer for 23K. He already had a deposit on it from a banker-dude in New Jersey. The carfax is clean, two owner. Unbelievable.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks...what is LCA related...? Can you expand on the cheap fixes or what the issues are, please? Definately taking it in for a PPI before I make a move

POST 5Original post

Creaky Suspension Sunroof there are 41 threads about noisy sunroofs. try a search. Some repair them with bits of felt from HomeDepot that people buy to put on the bottom of chair legs (aka the cheap fix) Armrest see post #2 - it links to Renntech, you have to be a member to see it, but if you have a Porsche the second thing to buy is a Rentech memebership IMO (in my opinion) you will have to just try the gas cap door thing... and if it doesnt work, sometimes the lock is just pushed out of place - remember... doors unlocked = cap unlocked

'Lower Control Arm' - bushings go bad. The fix is usually to replace the LCA. Some folks might even be able to press in new bushings, don't know if that is feasible.

and of course alignment good to begin with. Given how a bad alignment can result in accelerated tire wear an alignment after "major" suspension work I think just a good investment in ensuring tire life prolonged as much as possible. Sincerely, Macster.
