I would love to see some photos of your P-cars in/after winter driving, preferably covered in snow
I just got a set of winter wheels+tires, a 3M clear mask for the front, and my wife thinks I'm absolutely crazy for doing it.
Phil, you really need to put a battery maintainer on that thing. I see your car and I think of the Ferrari in Ferris Bueller's day off.
You don't have a 16 year old son do you?
Actually, this pic was taken months ago - when stored during the winter, I do hook it up to a battery maintainer. I do love my car, but I'd trade it for a real 250GT California Spyder portrayed in the movie (that one was supposedly a fiberglas mock up from what I understand). BTW, I have twin 23 yo sons - TG only one can drive a manual.
Here you go - without the signage.
C4 is great on hard pack snow and lots of fun.
The heater blows hot pretty quickly from being cold - I just wish mine had heated seats and steering wheel.
PS - for winter drivers on a C4 - I have almost had her stuck and learned to switch off PSM to get unstuck - not sure why exactly, but that was the trick for me, so keep that in mind if you get yours stuck going through a snowbank.
Thanks guys
The wife and I took a quick spin up to Snoqualmie pass this afternoon, thought I'd snap a couple pics. Not a whole lot of snow up there yet, but man was it cold! 20 degrees!

That Speed Yeller shure is purdy ...
Here's my 2001 C2 on a brisk, "winter" morning in South Florida.
Sorry, though I know I don't qualify, I wanted to play too.
here is one from a few years ago....Thr car is gone ...but hey its Canada that same snow is still here!!
Sorry about the pic res...it was from a camera phone
Last winter Seattle had a sudden evening snow storm--with thunder and snow squals no less. Up to 2-3" accumulation in an hour or so. My wife called me as she was on top of a steep hill in her Toyota and afraid to drive. I had a choice between my Ranger P/U & the 996 with summer tires. Although I was concerned about other drivers not used to the conditions, the 996 did a great job getting to her and getting us home. Freeways were at almost at a standstill--but back streets/roads worked. PSM seemed to do fine--esp. when one wheel had a lot less traction than the other. But...at night...no pics.
It would be good if the P-clubs in the lower 48 worked harder to have snow/ice autocross events. Although you can go play in a large parking lot on your own, it's different if you have a specific course to explore limits of adhesion.
I've said elsewhere that my I believe strongly in winter tires. But last night, we had freezing drizzle and temps hovering a degree above zero as I was driving home. I was amazed at how composed the car is. Granted, I'm on fresh summer tires, but I'd really have to have been acting like an idiot to spin them. My winter tires and wheels go on tomorrow... I'm stoked.
Wow! Am I the only one who thinks that the 996s look super sexy in snow? It is as if they feel right at home being on the white stuff. Such a beautiful scene and they look so beautiful.
After all they are born in the Alps eh?
PS: Can't wait to pick my snow shoes this week.

BIG TIME SNOW IN MINNESOTA!!!! Here is a video of my friend's 2001 Turbo in snow at our work's parking lot on Saturday afternoon. Enjoy!!!

Damn, that looks COLD! Now I am reminded of why I wasn't upset when we moved from Michigan to Texas at the start of my senior year in high school.
Nice vid. His exhaust seems pretty quiet.
OK...it just pains me to see these beautiful cars in the snow...I know, I know...they can take it, but that doesn't make it right!
Fantastic pics anyway!
What an awesome driving day in Minneapolis on Tuesday. It's the first time I've had her out in snow and with snow tires I did better than 90% of the cars out there. It was amazing and here are a few shots!!!
Checking out the other forums, I'm from the 911 and 951 board. This is real winter driving, the annual RMR region Ice Race on Georgetown lake in Colorado.
We don't get a lot of the white stuff around here, and it tends to be slushy. This is my 2002 shd with 17" twists and Blizzak LM25 snows. Handled like a dream.
I'm doing it. After years of saying someday, this is the year I put the Subaru in the garage and driving the P-car full time (at least so far). I figure that I will go for quantity rather than quality. Enjoy the pic's.
Love it. Thanks for the inspiration! I'm doing it this year, too, but I do flinch at the salt and dirt stains sometimes. Then I remember the immaculate, winter-stored BMW that somebody else is driving now and didn't pay a penny extra for...
Nice!
To have even more fun at low speeds you could try switching the PSM off, I recommend that strongly, it's insane drifting fun - the main reason why I like driving my C4 in winter. Oh - I'd do the PSM off thing in a parking lot with no parked cars of course.
Check this one out:

Oh one more -
Nurburgring in the snow with 996, letting it hang out on the corners! what a rush eh?

That is some pretty lazy snow clearing! Brush the lights with your glove, jump in and hit the wipers and you're off.
Love the look on the two guys filling up behind you
Greg....that's funny...except I didn't have gloves! Rolled down the street from where I parked for an hour, just to get a snow brush. Yes...the looks ALL DAY LONG were priceless. One guy said...."how on earth did you get that car to roll?". My response...."All Wheel Drive with snow tires....can't be beaten". Really?????.....wowwwwwww. You are crazy....lol

Had my biggest cold weather rush in recent memory. Was adding oil and saw all this yellow foam on the cap, and a little in the feed tube. Luckily, "search is your friend" and it was just condensation/oil rather than a nice mix of coolant and oil. . . Funny, never saw this on my other cars, but none had the long almost horizontal feed tube either.
I might be changing my mind about not driving this winter. What's the web site that has the tire/wheel builder? It's just to hard not to drive her.
Thanks,
Paul
I've seen a noticeable increase in porsches on the road this winter around my area. I only drive 8 miles to work and pass a 911 almost on a daily basis. Maybe it's the same 2 or 3, and I've just talked myself into believing that everyone is buying porsches now.
Repeat after me: It's just a car...it's just a car...it's just a car.
Seriously, I didn't know there were so many P-car guys that were so interested in fine art, i.e. staring at a car in the garage for several months a year. If anyone needs me to describe what driving a 996 is like, just PM me.
Washed up and running on dry streets. In 20 min from the time it was taken it started snowing again, wet roads covered in salt.
updated with a few more from today
I have my new wheels and I took her out for a 300 mile round trip this weekend. What a blast. I had more thumbs up from people driving next to me then I do in the summer.
Those Blizzacks are fantastic.
I know I made the right decission. Cannot wait to drive her home tonight.
Paul
This thing rocks. New snow two days ago and out I went. I don't have the C4, just a C2 but it goes up hills and grabs more then my Expedition. I am taking her on another weekend trip and already I am excited about it. The M3 guy at work about crapped his pants when he saw my car parked outside. That in itself was priceless.
I am now a believer.
Paul
LOL that just means people on this board need to stop fuqin around with a stupid car and allocate some of that pent up energy traveling abroad
i appreciate most strokes from diff folks
took my car out for some winter driving, Tucson style. As the weather cleared, hit mid 50's today, expecting 70's tomorrow.
PS. We'll pay the price in June, when it's >100 F.
