Well, I picked up a set of very clean OEM 5 spokes with MPSC for $1100 last year.

They didn't have any OEM in stock, and they usually confirm a change before shipping, but didn't.

I figured, if I bent one of these, they are cheaper to replace than fixing a more expensive wheel.

On fleabay, a 5 spoke set (rims only) sold for$900ish when I was 'watching' it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I guess I'm still stuck in the forged fuchs versus cast fuchs mindset of my previous cars.
Hey guys, I have a pair of 2003 carrera wheels that are 18"x8" front and 18"x10" rear in the 5-spoke design. I was wondering if these came in both a solid and hollow spoke design and how you can tell them apart from one another. Im thinking about maybe selling them so does anyone know the market price for both a solid and hollow spoke?
Thanks for the help.
-Jace
those wheels only came in a solid spoke? Im not sure what kind of car they actualy came off of. I got them from my work and am trying to distinguish which one it is.
and yes they are absolutely beautiful on any porsche.
Well, I picked up a set of very clean OEM 5 spokes with MPSC for $1100 last year. Forced to sell it per the wife.
I just bought another set of OEM 5 spokes with PS2 for $1300(boxster rims) that should be at my door by Monday. Wife still does not know yet. ooops, better tell her soon.
On fleabay, a 5 spoke set (rims only) sold for$900ish when I was 'watching' it. The deals are out there if one is patient. If you are selling only the rear 10ers, I might be interested.
Either the wheel prices for OEM in good condition has taken a nosedive or y'all are in the market to buy and praying those are the prices citing what we call in the stats world......outliers. I have a set of 5spokes with fairly new rubber that I thought about selling but no way would they go for the price of a set of tires alone! I would think, wheels alone 1500+, and wheels with tires 2K+.
Great if you can grab a set for less as I have no horse in the race so best of luck to either side
I purchased an OEM two year old set in very good condition with Continental tires approximately 75% tread, for $1800 off our rennlist classifieds a few months ago. UPS shipping charges were very reasonable although I can't recall the amount. I felt that was a fair/good price.

The replicas are just under $500. I normally see them "selling" $800-1200 for OEM depending on condition and desire to sell. OFten with some tires. You can however ask whatever you want for them, I dont' see them being sold at those loftier prices. the 996 OEM wheels don't exactly fetch a premium.
FWIW: I would buy a set right in the middle of that range provided they were straight and looked at least a 9 on a scale of 10.
Here is a link to a company selling 5-spoke Carrera wheels for $225 - fronts and $270 - rears. They also list Replicas at a higher price???

No affiliation with the seller I just came across them when I was looking for replacements. I ended up finding a used set in Boxster size w/ some scratches for $550 w// caps and lug bolts
The photos you show look like OEM wheels, as I have never seen the size and offset shown next to the valve stem on the replicas. Yours probably say "Made in Germany" and "BBS" on the back near the center of the wheel.
The link is a pretty hot deal if it is legit. The bad part about buying it online is you cannot inspect to see if it was refinished due to the rim being cracked or bent.
I called when I saw this thread. The person I spoke to said they are OEM unless the part number ends in an N, then they are replicas.
I took a chance and ordered a set, so I'll let you know how it turns out.
Guys, an update on my purchase. I ordered OEM Carrera 5 spoke wheels on line. However they shipped replicas. I called and they told me these were shipped in error. They didn't have any OEM in stock, and they usually confirm a change before shipping, but didn't.
They offered me a pretty big discount, or full refund including the shipping both ways.
I was disappointed they didn't have the real wheels at that price, but was very happy with the service in the end.
I bought a new track car and was planning to learn on these before I spend real money on light weight GT3 wheels. I figured, if I bent one of these, they are cheaper to replace than fixing a more expensive wheel. They weigh within a pound of the OEM, so may not be a bad option at this price.
I was going down the same lines of thought but have my reservations if they bend too easily (I like to use the curbs at the track...what can I say). Did you weigh the replica's that you bought as according to the research I've done the replicas are 2.5lbs heavier each for the fronts and 4lbs each heavier for the rears.
The rear I weighed was right around 24 lbs. I think the OEM weigh 23.36. I did it on a bathroom scale, so it was not too scientific.
My mechanic said to keep them anyway and sell them when I get new wheels. I don't really need them, so will probably send them back. He said these would not be that different from the OE since they are both cast. I guess I'm still stuck in the forged fuchs versus cast fuchs mindset of my previous cars. But at well under 200 a piece, they are pretty disposable without much regret.
Anyone else bothered by this image of a rim sitting on rocks, face down?
I didn't like the MY02 5-spokes when I bought my car last year, but they are growing on me!
