POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am considering buying a used set of Kinesis wheels for my project car. I will be installing the OEM Mk1 aero kit that I purchased for it shortly. I love my polished turbo twist style wheels (18x8 & 18x 10), but I know they are not the lightest wheels. I am not sure they will look the best with the aero kit. I promise not to be offended by any opinions....it's just a car . If you have different taste in wheels, I won't take it personal. The wheels I am considering are pictured. They are 18x8.5 front and 18x10.5 rear. Two have been refinished in satin black, the other two are anodised black and will need to be refinished in matching satin black. Thanks guys.

POST 2Original post

I think the black wheels would look great. I'm not a fan of chrome wheels at all.

POST 3Original post

Well, i'll start it off . . . FWIW, I like black wheels on dark cars. Like the design too. Should complement the aero kit too.

POST 4Original post

nope..terrible black wheels..I'll do you a favor and take them off your hands cheap ... just funning you man, I think those would look great. IMHO Chrome looks best on black cars only.

POST 5Original post

Nice wheels. I'm not a chrome fan either, so these are a nice upgrade.

POST 6Original post

The wheels look great, I also think they will look good on your p-car, better than the chrome twists no doubt. I do think white, black, yellow and red look the best with black wheels but you should be able to pull it off

POST 8Original post

Love the wheels! I'm not into the chrome either... I'm going to have the lips on my wheels painted black to match the center too.

POST 9Original post

It's starting to sound like a chorus but I agree the black will be a big improvement over the chrome.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the opinions. I think I'm sold. How should I tell wifey???

POST 11Original post

When you figure THAT one out please let us all know!

POST 12Original post

I think the Kinesis should look great, especially in the color you've chosen. I happen to have a set of Iforged Seneka wheels on order and will be finished soon. I have to tell you that I have really enjoyed reading and following your project. It's been exhilarting to see the passion that the 911 can bring out in someone. Jay

POST 13Original post

lol.. Lighter weight wheels = increased MPG They are a good investment, will pay fo themselves.

POST 14Original post

My turn to weigh in......dump the chrome (they look best on hot rods) and replace with satin silver finish. Not black. Your car is too dark for black wheels.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 5112684

I'm not a fan of black wheels on blue cars. Your Chrome wheels look very nice on your car IMHO.

POST 17Original post

Not a fan of the chrome.. Re do the Kinesis wheels in satin, or clear anodize... anodizing is the lightest and strongest finish fwiw.

POST 18Original post

Mark, OK, I am going to give it to you straight from the hip. I think the chrome wheels look like ****. (translation = I am not a fan of chrome on P-cars). (Meant to be humorous) The Kinesis wheels are nice looking. However, while I may not be as knowledgeable as you are in the technical department, I think you are going to have to put a tire on the top left wheel in the Kinesis pic. If you leave the wheel as is, I don't think your car will handle very well.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for taking the time to post your opinions guys. I really love the look of the satin black wheels. I wish my car was a lighter blue. I think the contrast would look better. Arnee, I can't imagine improving the look of your car. I understand blacking them out though. It will look fantastic. DJ, thanks. The Iforged wheels look great. Please post pictures when you get them. ls911, I'll give your idea a try. I already told her that the decreased weight will be like adding 20hp....she likes to go fast also. Ray, thanks. The decreased weight for the track is a big motivation, plus the extra width. I'm not sure how significant either will be. If I get the black ones, I doubt I can justify keeping the polished ones. Here is a picture of Jerry Seinfeld's former car that is for sale.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tim, thanks for the honest opinion. When my wife and I dress for a night out, I think the chromies look pretty good.

POST 21Original post

Love the black wheels but not sure how they'll look on your blue 911. Still they look better than the chrome. If you like them ...that's all that matters.

POST 22Original post

Not a fan of black wheels on a blue car. Black looks better on a brighter color car (i.e. white, silver, yellow, red) or black on black. I would go with a brushed or polished silver on your car and something with a turbo/aero twist. Or if you want to get a little more exciting a gold center on blue would look awesome.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 5113641

Now gold/bronze is an idea...

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the opinions and ideas guys. The gold center is an interesting thought. I had an Alfa coupe in college (early 80s)...it was red with gold centered Gotti wheels. They seem to be making a comeback. They might look good with a blue car. Body colored centers like the 80s Fuchs wheels might also be a little different.

POST 26Original post

Those black Kinesis look sharp. Those are 18's?? They look kinda small in the pics.

POST 27Original post

I am sniping those wheels off ebay. How much were you going to bid? I have mine at $2050

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 5113594

Mark, I LOVE your "wife's" outfit. What's not to like? I think silver wheels would look best on your car. Maybe some silver Kinesis wheels? I am not sure that the "black & blue" combination (especially darker blue) would look that good. Not enough contrast, IMO.

POST 29Original post

Keep the chrome until you find something better.

POST 30Original post

Or Mark, buy a semi as previously suggested and use the black wheels.

POST 31Original post

Just find a set of fire damaged wheels and rebuild them - so cheap the wife shouldn't mind the cost and they would match the car better!

POST 32Original post

Mark, I wouldn't wear black pants to a dark blue shirt, as I think these two colors don't work together. So, I wouldn't put black wheels on a dark blue car either. If you don't want to go with silver, try gold; some gold wheels like these BBS look pretty cool.

POST 33Original post

I like the gold - didn't expect it to look so sharp. The black would work - just saw black rims like yours on a C4S in Basalt Black. Looks sharp - so I don't think Blue would be a bad combination. I'm a purist. +1 on the silver alloy look. Big no on the chrome.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

VWrado, at that price, they are yours...my current bid is $1607.89 I have to factor in the price to have two of the wheels refinished. I couldn't stand to have two painted and two anodised. They are still a great deal at $2050, just more than I am willing to spend right now.Good Luck, I hope you get them. Please post pictures. Vove, they are 18s. Tim, I won't have to worry about it now. I was worried about my dark blue and the black also. I knew I could count on your honest opinion, thanks. DC, it sounds like I will be doing just that. Steve, I guess I don't have to start looking for one. Kolshack, ouch....that hurt. Hwk, I love BBS wheels. The gold would look pretty good. Your comparison to the shirt & pants is a good one. I wouldn't wear it either. Ultimately, I like the old school; 80s look with the body painted centers on the Fuchs wheels. Some OEM sportdesigns with iris blue painted centers would be just my style and still lighter than the turbo twists. Thanks again for all the input guys. This place is great, thanks to guys like you.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hwk, I stand corrected. My wife says she would wear blue and black with a black purse and black stilettos. So I guess with CF mirrors and a CF center section on the taco tail, it might be ok.

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 5114984

Thanks, I just didn't was us rennlisters to go on a bidding war so I figured I just let you know how much I was going to bid.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I guess I will find out how the black wheels look with iris blue. I just won them off ebay for $1759. I will put one side on the car. If I like it, I will have the other two refinished in black. If not, I may have the centers painted iris blue and the outer lip polished. Thanks again for the input guys. I will post pictures with them installed. They probably won't look right till I get the aero kit installed.

POST 39Original post

MFletch I think it will all look good when done, not a bad combo. Actually black and blue DO go together fine (just look at the lions uniform, they sure look good loosing). Maybe paint both the lips + center iris blue to match the car as another option. It will look hot when done, IMO Chrome or gold suck Ludwig

POST 40Original post

I like those. My friend has em on his car. I think they'll look awesome on your car black too.

POST 41 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. The wheels are sort of a blank canvas at this point. Mike, thanks for the picture....they look stunning on his car. That makes a good argument for body color with a polished lip.

POST 42Original post

Quotes source post: 5113046

Don't. She probably isn't going to notice them unless you tell her.

POST 43 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm lucky she is a good sport about my addiction. She is trying to help me figure out what color to paint/polish them.

POST 44Original post

ABC --- Anything But Chrome. Here's a quick Photoshop, just to give you an idea of what they might look like. (Black is surprisingly difficult to manipulate in Photoshop.) My own vote might be to paint them body color.

POST 46Original post

Mark, I am not a fan of chrome either, and although I do like black wheels on black or lighter colored cars (red, silver, white, yellow), I've never been a fan of black wheels on blue. HOWEVER, with that said, I think the photoshop picture with these wheels in black looks pretty awesome and menacing! Can't wait to see the aerokit and everything together!

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ghostwriter, that was really nice of you to do that for me. I tried doing that myself couple days ago and was unable to figure it out. Thanks. I can't wait to show it to my wife. I think I might like that look with the aero kit installed. Chsu74, thanks for the picture. I really like the look of that one also. The black wheels, with polished lips, look great on that blue car. I can't wait to see his current project car finished.

POST 48 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Scott. The aero kit looks incredible on your car. I was looking at pictures of yours last night. It helps keep me motivated.
