Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I know this issue has been discussed before but is the deep sump oil pan kit really necessary? I am going to track my car 2 to 3 times a year at the most. Do you think I should get it just for reliability sake? However, I don't want to get any hassle from the dealer. What do you guys think? http://www.bkauto.com/porsche/r9095.php

POST 2Original post

What year is your car?? If 02 and on the X51 kit might be the way to go. I've never heard an explaination as to how the BK kit helps. IMHO the kit you should consider is the one from Porsche Motorsports. This kit gives you the X51 type 2 stage oil scavange pump for the right side of the engine, which is where the problem is. Here's some links you may or maynot have seen on this subject: PCA Tech Section Q&A Oil Starvation Kit from Brey Krause

POST 3Original post

The BK kit probably wouldn't hurt, might even help. But...if you want to do it right you will have to get the proper oiling kit.

POST 4Original post

For some reason adding just a half qt more capacity doesn't sound it will help but maybe BK knows/done research to back it up. The motorsport option sounds like a better alternative. If your only going 2-3 times a year on the track and you haven't had ne issues like smoke coming out of the exhaust then I would just forgo all this. Also depends how your dealer will handle it if a problem arises with/without oil kit or similar-some won't cover nething if on the track so if you have good relations with the dealer- at least you get some stuff covered. Regards. Mike

POST 5Original post

Unless you have a very well prepared car and you will be running on slicks, I really think any oiling kit is a waste of money. Having said that, it's your cash. If the BK kit provides you peace of mind, it might be worth it. Jim

POST 6Original post

As a guy who blew my engine with a totally stock car on Bridgestone S03's, I've got to disagree with this somewhat. IMHO the track you'll be on has a lot to do with this decision too! I blew the engine on a track with a very sharp up-hill hard braking left turn {Tremblant}. I'd agree with Jim IF the track you'll be at does NOT have such a turn.

POST 7Original post

Pete, It was my understanding that the oil starvation problem was tied to high speed left hand sweepers. Did Porsche tie your problem to oil starvation? Jim

POST 8Original post

So ... here in lies the problem, the engines are so cheap to replace that a root cause isn't cost effective. I'll be quite up front here, I have assumed that a connecting rod bearing failed because that's what it sounded like to a mechanic I trust. I have assumed that it failed due to the oil starvation issue since the engine failed just after passing through a hard braking up hill left turn. My dealer could have cared less what happened to the engine. And acording to them, PCNA doesn't give feedback any info about the core that you give back to them. So who knows for sure ....
