Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

have a 99 996 cab, new to me, orrig option with hi fi sound package I wanted to improve the sound system. porsche auto dismantlers in LA has a premium door spkrs for 800$ for pair are these an improvement worth thr tab, are they a reputable buisness to purchase from, any other cost effective options, yes I do love the sound but like to listen to radio as this is my daily driver. I had a 911 sc fron 82 and a 99 c4 this is by far the most enjoyable p car I have had that pretty much does everything from commuting to fun back road driving here in Wisconsin thanks for sdvice

POST 2Original post

Is Porsche Auto Dismantlers is trying to sell you Porsche premium door speakers (Bose, I guess) for $800? Or are they trying to sell you aftermarket speakers?

POST 3Original post

There was a premium package that upgrade the standard stereo. I think this will not be an up[grade to the Hi Fi option that you already have. If they are trying to sell you a bose it will not connect to your sysytem as most of them are the fiber optic circuits. The best bet is to have after market speaker installed. Call Car Audio Innovations at [phone removed] they can help.

POST 4Original post

If you want to buy the origional equip porsche set up, I think it could be found for a couple hundred dollars used. But if you want to get something really worthwhile, try going to a few good auto stereo shops and see what they can do for your car. The equipment will be far superior. And they can make it undetectable with the origional look. As a lifelong audio enthusiast, I got a new 04 and took the whole bose system out, and replaced everything with good quality equipment. It is a world of difference.

POST 5Original post

MY02 Porsche Bose systems were an analog (copper wire) based system. The headunit connected to the amplifier via wires (LF, RF, RF, LR, Sub) at line levels and the amplifier connected to the speakers. MY03+ Porsche Bose systems use a plastic fiber optic system called MOST to connect the components (not speakers) to the headunit in a ring fashion. So you would go out of the headunit, into the amplifier, out of the amplifier to the CDChanger, out of the CDChanger and back to the headunit. The speakers connect from the amplifier outputs via wire (subwoofer is self powered) Obviously, you can not connect a standard (analog) headunit to a MOST amplifier. For $800, it is unclear what they are selling you; however if you ask for details and MY info, you should be able to determine this.
