Per the mechanic, this is what regulates force application to the brakes, and he suspects the damage occurred when the previous owner had a new IMS installed six years ago.
Leading evidence: 'Install six years ago' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean house, at least not yet' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

it should be part #14 and it has a disconnect point under the car so it should be able to be slid up over the motor.

Per the mechanic, this is what regulates force application to the brakes, and he suspects the damage occurred when the previous owner had a new IMS installed six years ago.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, all. Can a small tear in the vacuum line for the intake distributor be mended? It's itty bitty and my brakes are fine, but fixing it requires dropping the engine. Any chance I could buy a little time with some duct tape?
Thanks!
Take a Pic of the leak....there could be semi-permanent fix for it ( depending on the material and location) ....I'd sure hate to pull an engine for an itty bitty vaccum leak....
Yaaahhhh… same.
The official report is this: VACUUM LINE - INTAKE DISTRIBUTOR TO BRAKE INTERMEDIATE PIECE. Per the mechanic, this is what regulates force application to the brakes, and he suspects the damage occurred when the previous owner had a new IMS installed six years ago. But if that's the case, whatever the damage to the vacuum line might be, it has to be minor because the brakes feel great. Also, even though a repair requires an engine drop, identifying the problem didn't.
I have to admit, I'm leaning towards just letting it ride. If things feel this solid six years after whatever damage occurred, maybe I can wait until the brakes start to feel a little squishy. Also, $5k is a lot of money just to replace a hose.
So its the brake booster vac line. Im 98% sure it can be replaced by just loosening the motor mount and lowering the engine some. Im not even sure u would have to do that. I would get a second opinion on the repair.
Generally duct tape doesnt make for a good repair, but a piece of electrical heat shrink may work. U would have to disco the pipe and slide it over the hole, then use a heat gun to shrink it. There r also some sealing repair tapes in the plumbing section of a home store that may work.

Without being flip, keep in mind that these cars are 20+ years old; plastic gets brittle over time, and rubber deteriorates as it ages.
So, what you are seeing is probably more symptomatic of a wider issue. Not advising you to drop the engine and clean house, at least not yet. However, you should start preparing for the day they call 'while your in there...'
A smoke test might tell you if there are other leaks, too.
That’s a fair point. It’s not that I’m adverse to dropping the engine if that’s what it takes, rather that it’s a lot of rigamarole for *a* hose. If I’m gonna do it, I’d rather address as much as I can and make the expense worthwhile. Good news is the shop did do a smoke test and that’s all they found.
I would say that there is a decent amount of room to fish that line through because its not a tip. Those early lines r also known to leak from the 90* connector into the intake so make sure u replace the all of it.
it should be part #14 and it has a disconnect point under the car so it should be able to be slid up over the motor.
Thx... just to be clear i have not tried to replace that line with the engine still in the car but in my head im 92% sure it can be done. He just needs to find a shop that wants to try and not just follow the p-car book.
